Tony Pauline: Panthers will strongly consider Kenyon Sadiq if he’s there @19

Post Banks reaggravating his foot I think Woods is the only DT with a real shot to go at 19. I’m a little worried about him on the outside but he’ll be fine in nickel.

there’s overlap with Wharton though and it makes me think they probably don’t go that direction.

they just spent a lot of money in free agency to go out and grab players that won’t be starters in their first season. I think they want an OT and DT and would take one they loved…but I really do think they want someone more plug and play.

Agree with this. Any linemen drafted won't start this season. Heck it took Derrick Brown 3 years to figure it out.

ILB, FS, Nickel on defense. WR, TE on offense. Those are the only positions that could realistically start day one. Though TE is also a position that generally takes time to learn, as you're an olineman and a receiver. You have to learn complex blocking schemes and then the route tree/hot routes/chemistry with your QB.

Tight end is this unique position where it’s not generally considered a premium position but it’s also not really something you can just go out and buy great play at. Great tight ends virtually never go anywhere. If you want a good one you have to draft him, and more and more lately, you have to take him in the 1st. I don’t need a guy to be ready from his first time stepping on the field as a rookie, that’s an unrealistic expectation-I’d like to have a place for him to step in and play though. Sadiq would have a defined role from the first practice and would open up the offense as a whole simply by being here.

but in any case I get the impression that the team doesn’t feel he’s going to be there which jives with kind of how I’m feeling.

Besides his frame, he's top .000001%

But can he block edges?? what's his route tree?? those are the issues.

personally I feel he should be in the discussion, among 4/5 others. Who knows the new hire Darrel bevell may change the offense system some, I hope he does......

Hes a solid blocker, I wouldnt say elite but hes definitely not one of those guys who are basically a big slot.  He can block.

Day one starter means one of these positions is likely to be the pick in round one:

OT (Walker is guaranteed nothing)

DT

LB

FS

This puts a little bit of cold water on CB (unless they think a nickel starter is worth a round 1 pick), Edge, and WR.

I think it is trenches, either way. DL or OL.

I wouldn't say CB is out of the question at 19. There is one that could still be on their board in the first round. The good thing is they will have options. Unless every single player they like is taken before their pick I think they get who they want.

Agree. I think a nickel type is still in play. Also think a WR could come in too. Either move Coker into the slot, or move a new guy there.

McMillan/Coker down the stretch, healthy, combined for ~45% target share.  Our RBs accounted for ~12-15% combined.  So you've got around 40% left between WR3-4 and TE1-3 all divid up marginally and dependent on matchup.  That's a huge chunk left that another real receiving weapon would help tremendously.

Not opposed by any means.  Especially if that means said TE could play slot like Kittle.  Guys like LaPorta and Hockenson do so as well.

The nice thing about Saddiq is his proven ability in both slot and in-line.  It's what BAL always envisioned for Likely that hasn't happened yet.

So it gives you a guy who can play there while you can throw in Tremble/Evans in-line.  Also allows us to play 13 more which opens up the run game.  He could really open up the offense overall which you need w/Bryce.

And then it puts less pressure on needing to find the dynamic/shifty guy we've always pined for since Smitty left.

That being said, I'm not buying any reports after last year haha.

Well it won't happen in Baltimore seeing as hes a giant

I cannot see Morgan taking wr 3 drafts in a row. I would be livid if he did.

I know it sounds bad, but they aren't addressing the position in FA with any level of success - unless Coker can stay healthy. And let's be honest, XL shouldn't have been drafted in the 1st. If they would have drafted McConkey instead like everyone here wanted, then a WR this year wouldn't make any sense. But as it stands now, if WR is BPA, then I think they'll do it. Gambling on Metchie and/or Horn may be dangerous. And Coker is really a slot that's playing alot of snaps outside out of necessity.
