Which Round Will Carolina Draft Sawyer Robertson?

Its better just to stay put and take one that falls to you than trade up. If you are drafting in the top 10 you take a qb unless your starter was out due to injury. Even then you probably should take one anyway. Rinse and repeat until you have a franchise guy and his replacement on the roster.

They violated at least two of my cardinal rules with that trade up.

I don’t believe in trading future first round picks, for anything.  That’s what got Hurney on my poo list.  That is the big rule.

The other rule is, if a player worth that kind of investment is sitting at the 1.1, the team with the pick will not give it up. You are trading for less than that, if you trade. So maybe do not do it.

Brissett  3366 yards 23/8 41.2 QBR in 14 games, starting 12.

Bryce 3011 23/11 47.6 QBR starting 16 games.

Let's not pretend Bryce was a dominant force at the QB position.

And I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying about getting a QB2 with the potential to be a QB 1. None of those QBs were taken to be a QB1, but they became that anyway when given the opportunity. Develop a QB2 and develop him into a QB that could be a QB1. If he does and you end up trading him as a potential starter to another team for a 1st or 2nd, great. If you keep him, great. Either way, he's still an asset to the team. There's nothing wrong with developing assets.

Stats are what you're hanging your hat on? Keep dreaming.

I'm ok with doing it if it's the final piece to going all in, as long as you're legitimately in a position to do so. Rams trading 2 1sts and a 2nd for Burns when they desperately needed an edge rusher to be a top contender for a Lombardi. Not a fan, but I get it. Rings are more important than picks, but they were missing one or 2 pieces to be dominant on both sides of the ball. Trading 2 1sts for Parsons when GB wasn't on the verge of greatness, an overpay in my estimation.

Trading up is a suckers move. If you are a good FO you will find a way to make the best of who's available. If you don't get your guy the odds are he will probably be available in 3 years because he will be drafted by a bad team.

Brissett's stats, 280.5 YPG, 1.96 TPG, and .67 IPG, averaged out to 16 games would have been 4488 yards, 31 TDs, 11 Ints. He also had a higher YPA and completion %. You can't just dismiss stats like that and say that they don't count, because they do. That's good QB play, regardless of what the team record is. A QB that did that during the season could have competed with Bryce in camp. You think if Bryce missed is game and Brissett comes in and does that, Bryce is getting his job back? Ain't happening. And if you think it is, you're the one who's dreaming, not me.

Okay I probably should have said for a draft pick. There are times when I would be okay with maybe trading next years 1 for an established player.
But not many. Think about it, you are trading 5 years of a controlled cheap contract for a contract that will probably be your largest or one of them. It is an incredible price to pay.

I agree with that. Moving 1 or 2 spots up, ok, depending on the cost. Moving to 1 from 9, nope. Moving to 1 from 20, I don't even want to know what that would cost. Cheap rookie contracts are the only way to really be competitive. You have to hit on your picks at impact positions to have a chance for a deep playoff run year after year. Bills and the WR group are a perfect example. Elite QB, no one to catch it.

Sounds like an inconsistent deep ball and turn over prone.  I would rather roll the dice Drew Allar or Taylen Green for the better upside.  None of these three would challenge Bryce in year one.

Green is about 9 months older. If he didn’t put up that 40 time would you even be talking about him? Green would be a lot bigger of a project. Sawyer could also improve as well.

Allar had a lot of hype behind him but last season basically undone all that. I think it’s very possible that a team might take a risk and still draft him in the 2nd or 3rd round cause of his potential and what he did before last season.

so we probably won’t have a shot at Allar cause we have too many needs to draft that high on a qb.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
