Is tackle out the window at 19?

I told y'all Lomu would overtake Proctor.  Freeling jumped over both of them and will be the second OT taken, even over Fano who some teams are projecting as an OG.  Freeling will be gone to the most needy LT team after Mauigoa gets drafted; somewhere in the early teens.  That leaves the guy who I've been saying for a couple months is best fit for us, Lomu.

Agree.  Tackle is a huge long term need and we put a bandaid on it for this year.  Moton or Walker goes down and we are in trouble. I don't think we pass on Mauigoa, Fano, or Freeling at 19, but I bet none are there anyway, which would free us up to go safety, ILB, or defensive end.  I think the WR/TE talk is hoping for a trade back.  Remember, we b.s.'ed the draft w/ the no. 8 Tet pick last year.

Proctor is gonna be a love/hate prospect and even his lovers will likely admit that the bust factor is high. You gotta want a giant mauler of an OT to love him and even if you want a giant mauler OT you're still concerned if he's going to have the movement skills in space to handle NFL speed rushers. Honestly, I think he's gonna bust.

I would stay away from Proctor too, and I want an OT. Too much uncertainty to take him in the 1st round for me.

Proctor feels like a top ten lock. Unlike the recent giant men, this guy can move with the best of them. He does have LT movement for the NFL.

I even think theres a good chance he's the first OLman pick, no idea why he's got such a negative mock rank. Its terrible how bad people have this wrong. Reminder, it just takes one team one GM one OC one OL coach to pick the guy. I still can not believe the amount of bad press he's getting while being a elite trait prospect.

Im no lover either.

It's why I hated the Butler and Shaq picks. When we made those picks, DT and LB were probably our strongest position groups and we looked past huge needs to make luxury picks for depth and future development. Now if we'd drafted guys who developed into perennial All Pros, all good. But that's kinda what you need to justify those types of luxury picks. Some would argue that Shaq justified it. I wouldn't. Just because we ended up paying him like an All Pro doesn't mean he was an All Pro (note: he wasn't). Butler was an outright bust which makes it a really tough pill to swallow for a luxury pick.

they draft Chris Jones, for sure win SB 50 and maybe more. (healthy)

I'd hate to see it if you WERE a lover. LOL

Proctor looks like Temu Mekhi Becton to me. Becton was a significantly better mover at the college level than Proctor and he busted hard as an NFL OT and has still even been terrible at OG because he still gets exposed in space even on the inside. There's a reason why most NFL OL are significantly smaller than these guys. The Jonathan Ogdens of the world are absolute unicorns.

I'm not an NFL scout obviously, but to me, his side to side footwork looks clunky. Instead of the quick, short step, almost glide like movement that you see from the true elites like Ogdon, it looks like he plants and anchors as he moves with each step. He can be heavy footed. He has the size and mass to do that and it might work for him against bull rushers, but the quick edge guys I think will present a problem.

Watch game videos of Proctor vs guys like Ogdon, Joe Thomas, Tyron Smith, or Trent Williams, and just watch from the knees down. It's pretty interesting the difference in the way they move their feet. I'm not saying he won't be able to improve it, I just think that could be part of what gives some of that doubt. It does to me.

His tape isn't that good, ups and downs. He's just like anyone drafted outside the top 5 or so, he needs coaching and reps. Yes the Neals, bectons, have hurt giant stocks, but I feel Proctor going to break that. He only allowed one sack in the SEC and that was in a so-so year. He's got ELITE feet and great hands, that's rare.

There's 0.0 chance he's lasting to 19, he's just too much of a player.

If not for a couple players combine, he would have the best one. I feel it was top 5 after styles, Thin, etc..

I wish they let the guy do his 850 squat and 550 bench, but thats unfair...

like people forgot he had a 32.5” standing vertical at the NFL combine. For a giant that's insane, nothing like Neal or brecton.

Should absolutely NOT be out the window. Walker is on a 1 year deal, Moton is on his last legs, and who knows what ends up happening with Ekwonu. I still think they NEED to draft an OT at 19 or the future could get ugly, and we honestly need the competition this year as well. Moton (at this point in his career) and Walker are hardly worth resting on our laurels expecting them to stay both healthy and effective. Even t10 talent level tackles tend to have a lot of struggles in their first year or 2, so it’s not a good position to wait until you’re desperate to draft talent, and it’s a position that the talent drops off rather harshly.

According to Joe person's latest conversation with canales that looks like it could be the case unless you believe we sound Walker as a backup which I doubt he would agree to?

Not based on the only things we know so far which is visits.

Way too early to know though.

It sounds like Canales mouth is just moving to hear his own voice. Thankfully Morgan and Tillis seem to be more thoughtful in their approach.
