Is AJ Dillon just a camp body?

Hubbard is #1 running back. After that it is a battle for #2. Brooks is a mystery, Etienne didn't show much last year.  Dillon IMO probably has just as much of a chance to be #2 as anyone.  I do believe we need to solid RBs.  We saw what happened Rico down the stretch. He wasn't the same back that took over for Hubbard earlier in the season.

To be fair Etienne didn't get a whole lot of opportunities. The miniscule body of work (20 carries), however, did produce 94 yards and a 4.7 average. I guess we can conclude that he's decent depth. Could be running on the bubble though as special teams was a little sketchy.

If you trade Hubbard are you content with Etienne as our most skilled RB?  That IMO not a good idea for a run first team.  Huge gamble.

Since about 80 of you have sent me a PM to chime in on this topic, I will appease the masses:

I have some weird views on RBs.

Get a RB that can catch and block.  If you want great running, get an OL.

Never, except in rare situations, sign a RB to a second contract.  When they peak at age 27, you rarely get a return on the investment.

The most important trait for a RB is not speed-it is vision.

No, I don't think Hubbard is going anywhere, just talking to my fellow dawg.

He is here because Young cant get 1 yard when needed.  Its sad that we need to keep an extra back just for that reason, but here we are

Perspective is EVERYTHING.

Having a RB that is great at short yardage is fantastic.

Most teams will choose not to risk the QB if they dont need to.

Cam, Allen are outliers. They aren't the norm.

We need a short yardage guy agreed. It isn’t just the because of the QB but it isn’t not him either. There are things you normally can expect from the QB that we don’t really ask Bryce to do. But we really do need a guy to pound.

The issue is the predictability of it all in a Bryce Young led offense.

In 4th down attempts the Jets were at 41 and we were at 40. And we were 4th in conversation %.

We were 25th in the league in 3rd down conversion because we faced so many 3rd and longs in part due to playcalling on 1st and 2nd down but more largely due to the limitations that cannot be overcome.

And people want us to spend another 1st rounder on WR as if it is going to magically give Bryce physical talent he will never possess.

It's a shame we cut off our own nose just to put ourselves in this frustrating predicament.
