dareus refuses to be derailed

Recommended Posts

Dareus will probably be a really solid DT. He's a good pick, no doubt about it.

It's too bad there is this little thing called 'scoring', which is required to win american football games. It's too bad also that the offense does this, and a DT doesn't line up in offensive formations. And it's too bad we had the worst QB play in the history of our franchise last year and are in need of a QB 100 times more than a DT.

Dareus will be a great pickup for Denver, or maybe Cincci.

Love the kid, love the story, Would love to have him as our #1 pick. For some reason I now think of the movie the blind side when I hear of Dareus. The kid will come to the NFL to play, He will be a hard worker and thats what will make him a good NFL player. I honestly would love to pick him over Fairley and Newton but our offense is what we really need to improve and I would honestly feel better picking Green or Peterson with our first pick. So many tough decisions with so little time.

Which is exactly what Dareus is there to prevent other teams from doing :)

Dareus also is humble. When he was the MVP of Alabama's win over Texas in the 2010 national championship game, he didn't party afterward like a rock star. He hung out with his family at the team hotel, playing pool and reminiscing until it was time to go to sleep.

We'd be stupid to pass on Dareus if we stay at #1. Also, to address the whole scoring issue, if you can't stop an offense you have to match them in points and Cam Newton alone can't do that. Anybody who thinks so is pipe dreaming or has the ghey for him.

There's nothing wrong with our defense. We could always get a DT FA. or 3rd round.

    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
    • Bryce’s deep passes are intermediate passes for other strong armed QBs. I will say that Bryce’s accuracy on his deep passes have improved. Before they would just sail out of bounds. Now the WR actually has a fighting chance on the ball.
