The Pro Dareus crowd

CRA

The havoc Suh causes would make him more justifiable at #1 overall in a draft that was heavy in DT talent.

Dareus ain't a Suh. He will be a very good DT......coming out of a draft w/ loads of DL talent. With no 2nd round pick you gotta make those 3rd rounders matter.

You have absolutely no evidence to back that up.

it is just an opinion.....formed by what they showed in college heading into the draft. Suh was a great pass rushing force. Dareus wasn't.

also, it has been discussed by many that this particular draft is deep w/ DT talent.

Dareus is not a nose tackle, most experts project him as a 3-technique who can penetrate the LOS and get after the QB.

Did you see the National Championship game against Texas?

Will he be as good as Suh, probably not - but that doesn't mean he's not worth a high pick. I'm in the Cam camp, but to suggest Dareus is not worthy of the # 1 overall pick because he's not Suh or because he's a NT (which he's not) is silly.

Suh is a once in a generation prospect. No DT is going to compare to him. Dareus is a clogger and he can take up blockers for CJ/Hardy/Brown to get the QB. Just because he doesn't get sacks doesn't mean he can't be great... O_o

Did Jenkins ever get a lot of sacks with us? Dareus isn't on the level of Suh but he's as good a DT prospect for any other draft.

If you want to take players based on how hyped they are for their position then you should probably be on the Peterson bandwagon...

If Cam didn't cause such a stir, there would be no Pro Dareus crowd. He would simply be one of many we might pick. But since Cam is so hated, people reach for anything they can to get their mind off him. They make guys look lightyears better than they actually are and put them on a pedestal. The ONLY played in the entire Draft worthy of that is Peterson and I doubt we pick him. Dareus will be solid, but he's not worth the first pick and if Cam weren't scaring some of you to death, you'd barely even mention Dareus as an option.

and I understand, but I just want to point out again I am putting a heavy emphasis on the talent in this draft and Carolina making the most of those 3rd round picks.

I saying b/c he is not Suh, the great talent at DT in the draft and the fact Carolina doesn't have a 2nd rounder........we shouldn't pick him. I am not saying Dareus won't be a good DT or isn't worthy of #1 consideration.......I just don't think it is wise for Carolina to do it.

Jenkins did have a tremendous burst/first step(or maybe it was just great timing).....which is the knock on Dareus.

I like Peterson....I just don't like him in Carolina. To get the most out of him you need to run a heavy man scheme.

In all honesty I would prefer they get a band aid like Palmer (address future QB next year) and draft Green/Miller. I think those 2 with Peterson are the best 3 overall w/ Green/Miller fitting better here. My big thing is they have to address QB in some manner (doesn't have to be the draft).

One thing that makes Dareus valuable is his ability to play a versatile role along the line. Rivera has stated we may run some 3-4 looks and Dareus could slide inside and play the nose in those situations. He will not be an all time pass rusher at the DT spot, but he will be one of the best run stoppers in the league one day along with being disruptive in the backfield in passing situations. Some have him rated as the best prospect in the draft, including McShay and Mayock, at a position that is arguably our greatest need.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
