Carolina a potential landing spot for Mebane?

So he had 31 tackles and 1 sack in 2010. Why would we pay big bucks to pick him up when Landri had better numbers than that with 43 tackles and 3 sacks. I would want an upgrade which I am not sure he is. There is a reason Seattle isn't resigning him.

your placing a hell of a lot of emphasis on stats.

If the line was that blurry between Landri and Mebane then why isn't Landri seen as a top FA? Why were we able to pick him up for peanuts?

Right--Landri is more of a one-trick pony. He penetrates well vs. run blocking by shooting through gaps, but doesn't get same results vs. the pass and cannot get a push.

I still think Landri could do very well in our defense. I would keep him.

Mebane is not bad, but Cofield is who we (rumor) seek. I hear we will go after Cofield hard.

What do you think matters if it isn't numbers?? Some magical evaluation based on what you observe devoid of any facts?? The old, forget the numbers, I saw it, so that trumps all the numbers.

I wonder how that works at contract time when a player says ignore the nimbers, I played really great in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. Doesn't sound that Seattle bought it and I wouldn't either.

And really who says Mebane is a great free agent pickup. Seattle doesn't even want him.

Landri is not that great and that is the point. Mebane can't even put up better numbers compared to a run of the mill DT and people are slobbering over him. He is not that good or worth much money.

I don't see much slobbering, but please enlighten us on who ya want bud rather than telling us who we most definitely cannot get!! :gnorsi:

It seems most people still prefer Cofield as mentioned in this and many other threads. So again, who do you want?

Landri is better than you portray. For a DT, 3 sacks and 45 tackles is a good season particularly on a crappy team like ours last year playing in a poor scheme.

Landri is a 3 technique tackle which is why we picked him up. His job is to shoot the gaps and penetrate. He did a decent job against the pass. Most tackles not named Suh doesn't get double digit sacks from the tackle position.

I already said Cofield would be a good pickup because he can play the NT position, what are you rambling about. As for Mebane he isn't better than who we already have. Given that free agency hasn't started and we don't even know who will be available, it is hard to make a defintive list of who we should get when we don't know who will even hit free agency.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
