Cutler releasing ball faster due to fear of sacks

My problem with Cutler in the NFC championship game had nothing to do with him being hurt, it had to do with him sulking on the bench once he was out of the game instead of trying to find a way to help his team.

I distinctly remember a shot of the backup QB looking at pictures between series while Cutler sat right next to him staring off into space... last time I checked, a knee injury did not prevent you from looking at pictures and trying to help the kid understand and interpret what he was seeing.

At that moment, Cutler was too busy feeling sorry for himself to think about his team... he showed his true colors.

If he would have put a towel over his head he would have been cool and full of swag.

Mike Martz has a history of getting his quarterbacks killed and potentially shortening their career. Warner got hurt in St Louis but was able to resurrect his career in Arizona. Bulger got beaten up as well and now Cutler. I really think his schemes and ideas are fundamentally unsound for the NFl as it currently exists even with the added protection for the quarterback. He puts his quarterback back there unprotected as some kind of sacrificial lamb. Cutler will learn to get the ball out fast or his career won't last much longer. Martz schemes score points that is without question but at what price. Guys like Brady. Peyton, Rodgers and Brees put up better numbers than Cutler in a system that is more quarterback friendly.

Totally missed the point. Its not about how good you are but if you look cool.

Bad knee or not towels on head are awesome. Swagability factor of 10009988363720997836737.

If Cam was hurt and the backup QB was looking at pictures on the bench next to him, I would expect Cam to help - just like I would expect Cutler to help.

If your just going to sit around sulking, then hit the showers.

I think Cutler can be kind of a baby at times, and he was sort of sulking, but the whole NFCCG fiasco wasn't really on him.

NFL: 3rd QB Rule

Notable Games

In the 2011 NFC Championship Game between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, the rule was triggered with 57 seconds left in the third quarter. The Bears' starting quarterback, Jay Cutler, suffered from an MCL sprain just after halftime. His replacement, Todd Collins, was pulled after throwing four poor passes including two near interceptions. When Caleb Hanie, the Bears' designated third quarterback entered the game before the fourth quarter, it meant that the Bears could not return either Cutler or Collins to the field the rest of the game. The Packers won the game, 14-21.

Cutler couldn't have come back in anyways once Hanie played. So if you give the guy the benefit of the doubt that maybe he was hurting for a while, and then decided he could play afterall, it was too late anyway by rule.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
