Fair Question: Shockey, Extension?

i never liked shockey from the start of his career. he was a giant, and being from new york, i naturally hate all the local teams being a panther fan (except those poor bills, i feel so sad for that team). then shockey becomes a saint so he went even further down my list. i always thought he was completely overrated and always seemed to never match expectations. i was really disappointed hearing that we had signed him.

that being said, i think hes awesome now. i hope he stays with us for a while. even if his abilities start to diminish, he has a presence that i absolutely love and i can see him as someone who would fall really peacefully into a mentor roll.

dat deal hurney. do it.

Him and Steve Smith are like two peas in a pot, they love talking poo to other opponents.

I had already loved what he was doing the first few weeks, but yesterday, on a catch he had early, Merriweather came in later after 2 or 3 guys had tied Shockey up and tried his patented helmet-to-helmet blow as Shockey was going down.

Shockey ducked it and when he got up, it was clear he wasn't very happy with Merriweather and it appeared he was letting him know about it.

I saw him say something else to him later as well.

Then, it may have been one or both of Smitty's catches where Merriweather tried to lay him out and Smitty got up howling, Shockey ran over and picked him up and was right there next to Smitty - pointing and talking smack to Merriweather, I'm talking barking non-stop!

I was so hyped to see that. I can only imagine how that makes guys you're lining up with feel.

I'm thinking we will, but Shockey is to be injury prone. So maybe Hurney is waiting and doesn't want to do the mistake of resigning him to a long term contract like he did Davis.

I don't think Davis was a mistake they built in heavy protection on that, we won't get burned on that one.

    • Dude you're all over the place. Bryce definitely played better than average down the stretch last year. That's what I said. I dont think it's controversial, and I think it's true based both on stats and by actually watching him play. He was the 6th rated passer by PFF during the last 8 weeks. In no world is that below average You trying to twist this into something else is a you thing.  Have a great night
    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
