Another greg hardy thread

Is it me or is he just a glorified backup?

I know its his first year as a starter but to me he does make an occasional great play but a lot of the times gets beat in the run game and while passing the rusher.

I think DE is another position we should look at in the draft and in FA.

I was wondering the same thing as Salt. You know most times CJ is getting the double team, Hardy doesn't seem to take advantage as much as he should. We may already have a good DT rotation once the IR guys get healthy, and the rookies have a full off season. Perhaps the biggest boost we can give the interior linemen, is to draft another elite end. Is Couples that player? Haven't seen too many UNC games this year however, so I don't know much about him other than the hype.

He's a beast in the making, CJ didn't exactly blow up early either. He's a constant nuisance to QB's and will only get better. You also have to consider the revolving doors at DT and LB, which will effect his performance. Pressure wise he impressed more than CJ for me this season. Just needs to finish and he'll be a premier pass rusher.

Hardy is a good DE. Will he ever be elite? I think his ceiling may be a little lower than Mike Rucker's. There's no better DE out there in free agency that's better than Hardy if you ask me. Coples doesn't impress me, and even so, we won't draft DE with the first pick.

He is very athletic and can defend the pass very well. He leads all defensive ends in passes defended in the NFL with 11. He reminds me of Peppers because of the way he can drop back in coverage and defend the pass and the kid has a great motor. Even though he only has 4 sacks he has just about as many qb pressures as Charles Johnson so he is doing great on getting to the QB he just hasn't got the sacks. The kid just needs to learn to defend the run but I believe he should be okay in the future. We have Kieser and Applewhite who seem to be great back ups so I don't believe that DE is what we will need in the draft.

If we can get a beast DT then I feel that Hardy will do a lot better. Our rookie DTs really sucked this year and our new DTs show how bad they were. I don't know if we will draft, sign or keep what DTs we have but I feel that DT and CB are much bigger needs than DE.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
