Greatest Offensive Turnaround in NFL History

The Carolina Panthers set a new record for the largest year-to-year improvement in offensive DVOA, and they set it by leaps and bounds. The Panthers were dead last in 2010 at -31.9%. This year, they rank fourth at 23.0%. That's an increase of 54.9%. There is only one other team that has ever improved its offense by 40% DVOA in one season: the 1998-1999 Raiders, who went from -28.1% DVOA to 15.2% DVOA.

The Panthers also set a new record with the best running game in DVOA history, thanks to adding Cam Newton to their running back tandem of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. The Panthers led the league with 36.0% rushing DVOA. The previous record was 34.4% by the 2000 St. Louis Rams, followed by the 2002 Kansas City Chiefs at 32.0%.

Yeah, Cam has helped this team so much but you know you can't let it get to his head. You got to make sure those coaches keep a reign on him by "putting their foot up his ass" if he starts behaving like the other QBs...:D

Congrats to you guys and the Panthers. The team have actually passed in percentage, what the Raiders did. And all that without any real off season.

Also, I remember those so called experts saying how hard it was going to be for teams like the Panthers to play well without any real off season. What this offense has done with a rookie QB, with so many "concerns," at the helm is beyond stunning.

    • Does he not already do that? The go route stuff is to just make space for the constant dink and dunk. That's why it dries up near the 20 where it gets tough.  Difficult to defend? Just get up in scores and lean into it. If they can send pressure without going too soft in coverage it will work agaisnt the Panthers.  I still think the offense is a QB away from instant improvement.
    • I don't know how about 5 at this point. I think that window has closed. Getting the easy stuff early and being notoriously unprepared every year is blowing up in their faces. 3 might be the max. Good Bryce shows up when the other team is having a practice game or an off weak after watching our film. It's basically a sucker punch to teams mailing it in. Groundhog day? More like Groundhog year again
    • It's a weak take like it was a weak game. It was garbage time against backups. That's his shine time. It's should be made fun of because it was pathetic. The WRs were gassed? What about the backup DBs? Those guys must have been really tired since they sit on the bench most of the time. Take that BS and go whine to someone else. man or zone they played off the line and back 10 yards in soft ass coverage. That and practice is all Young is good at. When the other team plays like they want to win he shuts down. Same as last year. Blah blah blah
