anyone who thought or thinks we are going to make some sort of huge splash in FA doesnt follow this organisation very closely or is dreaming

True. I thought the Panthers' first day of free agency was nearly perfect. We cut Wharton--had to do that. I am pleased with the Davis deal. We re-signed Hangartner--hope it was not expensive. Hangartner is a smart backup center who can play both guard spots. This is important becuase our center calls a lot up front with Cam at QB. If Kalil goes down, we need a savvy vet.

We do not want to get involved in these high-dollar bidding wars. Remember, the longer we wait, the lower the price. If we can grab a stating G and maybe a solid LB to play behind Beason or Davis, we did well.

I see very few upgrades through the FA market.Where is the cap genius everyone keeps referring to? I did see where Gross has agreed to restructure.

Don't forget...it isn't like Carolina's only chance to pickup guys to help them is today.. Lots of guys that can fix some of our needs (short term fixes) won't appear until closer to the season when teams start shaping their roster and making cuts.

Often teams will cut good/decent vets then b/c they have seen enough from the youth to gamble w/ them at that point.

people that buy early in FA overpay in FA.

sorry, but carl nicks isn't worth $10mil a year.

VJax isn't worth the money that he got paid, esp. when he's going to be part of an offense that won't be throwing the ball much.

also, remember: teams that are the big winners in FA are rarely, if ever, winners when it matters.

The Panthers always stay out of the initial frenzy and over paying of players that goes on the first few days of free agency and start to work once the dust settles.

Even so because we locked down our core last season I don't expect us to be very active in free agency even later.

Just relax. We have several players coming back from the IR on defense and a long draft where a lot of stuff can happen. Over spending in the FA market is a recipe for disaster and other teams will be releasing quality players later to sign their FAs or draftees, whom we can look at when they become available.

this OL FA class is going to be opening wide up soon, mainly because the draft class is so good. the best part is, the ones hitting the market will be incredibly affordable because the market will be flooded.

we'll see the same thing with WRs.

I'm wondering what would have made you think we would be active early in free agency going after the overpriced players? When has that ever been the way things are done here?

jesus effing christ FA isn't even 24 hours old yet. Panthers didn't have TB type cap money to throw around (and they wayyyy over paid for VJ for sure) so lets see what happens the next few days

    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
    • it's not so much this personal vendetta against the Carolina Panthers as it is more about Bryce Young never not once been in the same conversation with the top 15 or even top 20 Qbs in the NFL ..just saying
