Some PFF stats

Cam Newton killed it.

He had 18 aimed passes(this does not count spikes and throw aways)and completed 14 of them with one being dropped.

Thats 14-17 on aimed passes not dropped and 18 yards per completion.

He was 4-4 on passes of passes traveling 20 or more yards in the air.

He also had a qb rating of 149.6 against the blitz(they blitzed 10 times).

Gamble also shut down anyone who Brees dared to throw it to when Gamble was on them. This includes Jimmy Graham on an endzone play. The only pass completed against him was to sproles for 4 yards.

Also our D really disrupted Brees depsite the fact it wont show up on the stat line as sacks.

20 of his 50 dropbacks came under pressure and we only bltized 10 times.

He was 6-19 for 59 yards, a pick 6 and a sack on those 20 dropbacks.

For comparison he was under pressure on 19 of 54 dropbacks against the skins and that required 20 blitzes to our 10.

He also was only able to attempt 2 passes of 20 or more yards. He completed 1 of them for 29 to colston on the play where Norman fell down. This is signicfant because last year Brees averaged a TD AND 74.5 yards a game on passes over 20 yards in the air. He also attempted them 4.5 times a game last year.

Alexander and Johson led the team in qb hurries with 4 a piece

Hardy and Anderson led in run stops wit 4 a piece.

    • I presented that scenario because this is a home game and we seemed to have improved in some capacity in that area as of recently. The problem with the possibility of sweeping the Bucs is this team has had a habit of quickly falling victim to momentum shifts. The Bucs are coming off a bitter loss the same as the Panthers but the Bucs have a much better proven track record this time of year and they have performed when the pressure is on unlike our Panthers. We have a shot against the Seahawks here in BOA but that is a matchup that could quickly get out of hand because they are a well coached team and that goes back to the momentum shifts I mentioned. I just don't see this team beating the Bucs in their stadium to close the season. Tall order to say the least.
    • I’d give it another year for Sanders and Evans, I don’t much care what you do with Tremble’s spot. Let him have another year or maybe replace him. Haven’t looked at his contract so that may be the determining factor.
    • Following the crazy up down pattern we finish 9-8 with an improbable sweep of TB, and lay an egg in the home playoff game.  I don’t know if I can sign on to sweeping TB but I suppose it’s possible, they aren’t really that good this year.    ps I can buy beating TB Sunday and losing to Seattle.  Then it just gets to can you fluke one game. Any given Sunday. So we’ll see.
