Giants Match-up Discussion

I'm only worried about the Passing game of the Giants. Their TE, Bennett has become Eli's buddy lately. Nicks and Cruz are one of the best WR in the NFL. I think this is a crucial game, if they can contain Nicks and Cruz and limit Bennett. I believe this game will be ours.

I'm not sure if Bradshaw plays or not. So far the odds favor us for being a home game. So far about 80% of home teams win on Thursday. That's a good statistic to have on our side too.

Another factor that I believe we can thank the Bucs for, is that the Giants may have played their hardest football on Sunday and may not have much left in the tank for us this Thursday.

Lets not forget that the Giants were 9-7 last year before they went on their playoff run. They are not unbeatable and really Eli pulled a bunch of games out of his butt last year in the fourth quarter. That isn't to say they won't be tough and frankly we need a big lead going into the fourth quarter. But their defense is actually average and their offense can be shut down if you make then one dimensional by shutting down the run and pressuring Eli. He threw 3 picks in the first half on Sunday. If they had played that game on the road they would have lost.

They are giving up almost 7 yards a play and surrendering 29 points a game. Compare that to our defense which is giving up 5.4 yards per play and 21.5 points a game.

Norman will have to go against both receivers. I'd imagine he will play off coverage, just like Gamble generally does because they both have quick closing speed and are solid tacklers on the short passes. They want to keep Norman on the same side as Nakumara so he can provide help over the top.

Manning slings it deep more than anyone in the NFL and I feel confident with Gamble on an island against anyone. Norman could get beat deep a couple times but he is good at limiting yards after the catch and hopefully Nakumara will have his back.

I think we can force third down's quite a bit as their run game should be a little weaker if Bradshaw can't go. We need to get tricky on our zone coverages in the middle, as we typically keep our corner's on the outside, even if their man slants in. This is where we will have to confuse Eli and not let him figure out who's coming and whos dropping back to cut off his passing lanes.

Pierre Paul is a monster but Jordan Gross is a stud and will limit him as good as anyone else can.The rest of their d-line is good but they are not nearly as dangerous as him.

Cam is going to have to watchout for the pocket collapsing on him especially when they use their "nascar package". We just need to make sure to have quick dumpoff options or clear outside running lanes for Cam if this happens.

All in all, this should be one of the funnest games for any NFL fan to watch. I expect both teams to give each other hell and I hope we can use the homefiled advantage as a tie breaker.

That front Dline of the Giants, pretty fearsome.

O-Coordinator is really going to have to call forming quick routes, a slant would be nice once in awhile, and Cameron is going to have to understand he does not have all day and that Dline is just as fast as he is and bigger. Whatever he does he must committ early and do it....like giving a pill to cat...the more time it takes, the worse its going to get for the pill giver than the pill taker.

I think the key for us is to win the battle in the run game and score Touchdowns. Hold the Giants to field goals. I must say the Panthers have held their own in red zone defense. I don't have any numbers but just eye test they have made a few stops. I'd like to see heavy use of Tolbert as a sort of "chip" blocker who can sneak out and catch a pass. Get physical with our 4 headed running game and wear out the Dline. If they get us to third down exploit their poor coverage.

Other key factors:

-Which staff game plans better on the short weak. I lean towards Coughlin's experience

-Homefield advantage

-Which team recovers better on the short weak. Several players for both teams will be game time decisions.

-If the game is sloppy, which mistakes are punished and which slide by? Not every errant pass is picked off and not every penalty kills a drive

-Officiating. The players keep crossing the line further and further to see what they can get away with. If the game ends on the final play will one team feel like the officials played a role?
