Some Perspective Being Provided Today... Perhaps?

And we haven't?

did i say any differently?

i think the cowboys have done a better job of shooting themselves in the foot since the panthers came in the league, tho. how many playoff wins since '95 for them? lots more expected of them as well...being america's team and all.

doesn't matter. just pointing out that we aren't the only one whose been doing that.

New York just blew out the Niners. The Raiders barely lost to Atlanta. Seattle just took the lead over the Patriots late in the game with a touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Sidney Rice (IIRC).

This doesn't excuse our coaching staff from their blunders, but it does mean perhaps we aren't as bad as many of us, including myself, think at this point.

I've always said we have enough talent, but if we had adequate coaching it would push us over the top for wins any given Sunday. Today illustrated that there might still be some hope if we can get it together down the home stretch, but I won't allow myself to hold my breath for it, lol.

Every playoff team loses some games they should win and visa-versa.

We just don't have the visa-versa part yet.

The teams we have played so far are pretty decent this season and it shows by them beating teams that are pretty good. Do i believe we have a chance to turn it around of course. Do I believe it will happen no. The reason why I say this is because our team is pretty bad. We are very inconsistent, undiscplined, and we lack talent at key positions. I will be surprise if we win 4 games this season. I'm not being negative just trying ti put things in perspective.

If we actually RAN the ball like a normal offense I bet things would be a lot different right now.

The read option takes us too long to get moving forward and allows the defense to get an extra step or two. Maybe as a wrinkle or a change-up, ok ya maybe...but...

Stupid scheme. But of course Rivera will want to stick it out and his excuse will be "you don't abandon something new"

My perspective of this team will change once we beat a credible opponent. Its beyond what any other teams we've played look like after the fact. Think about it. Our best win under Rivera was against a TJ Yates led Houston Texans without Schaub, Demeco, Mario, or Andre.

so do a lot of teams on our schedule. the cowboys have been doing it for 15+ years.

lol The Ravens were giving them the game at the end then Romo just gave it right back. lol

I obviously don't see the Panthers the same way as anybody on this board. The way Cam goes, so goes this team. And he's having some growing pains. He's now hesitating with decisions. He didn't last year, he didn't in college. It'll hurt if you let it. Don't let it.

Are they beating themselves, or are other teams taking advantage of the weakness this team has in late game situations?

It's diminishing returns at work. It's going to be tougher for this team to take the next step than any of the past "steps" it has made. Saying they came close is making it sound so easy. Cam has talked about this and that's great but he may be pressing too much because of it.

The next step is for them to start pulling out wins in close games. That, and they have to start pulling away from teams. Instead of going 3&out when we have a slight lead, they need to go for the kill and same goes for defensive plays. The teams that do those things typically have a good/top QB.

Not trying to be negative, just discussing. I'm really excited to see Cam after this bye week. I've got my fingers crossed that they've worked in more short throws to get him in a rhythm. I'd also like to see receivers help him out more when he extends plays. Usually, it doesn't seem like he can find anyone.

Bad teams find a way to lose. Another way to say it would be:

losers gonna lose.

We can't break the cycle. Its a self fulfilling prophecy of suckitude (4 winning seasons in 17). I just don't think Rivera, Hurney, etc. are the force that can break this downward spiral. I even think JR might be a big part of the problem.

This franchise has a culture of losing and it's an unstoppable force that won't end until it hits an immovable object (a winning culture).

Group psychology is very clear on the dynamics that shape broad change in communities. THere has to be a leader at several different levels. We don't seem to have any.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
