Godfrey's thoughts on the new D

I'd rather give up a TD per game because we bit on a pump fake than give up 14 points in the second half because they're dinking and dunking all afternoon.

Hear Hear...

But of course I'd rather zero points...

anyone remember that fake fieldgoal attempt last season that godfrey sniffed out and broke up when no one was expecting it? the man's got some field vision and lightening speed, he was on the sideline before the pass made it there - i'm not worried about him playing as a reactionary role as opposed to scheme coverage - i think it plays right into his strengths.

Wasnt that Marshall that did that? I could be wrong it was either Godfrey or Marshall im getting old and cant remember much anymore im almost 35.

No, it was Godfrey in the first Arizona game.

You're thinking of Marshall's play in the preseason game versus the Eagles, in which he intercepted a toss back in another fake field goal.

I'm excited to see how every defensive player is used next year, and I hope all of their strengths will be showcased. Hopefully we see a "ball hawk" mentality from players like Marshall and Godfrey, and hopefully we see Harris back to his old ways as well. Just let the man go out there and make some hits.

Thats it! I knew Marshall had a great special team play.

am hoping for a solid D.. bar any injury we have a really good team.

I read on panthers.com that our offense is already starting to polish the attack due to the fact everyone is back. If we continue the dominate trend we had at the end of last season with 30+ points a game and our new defense knocks off 5-7 points a game. The Panthers are going to be very tough to beat. That includes New England and anybody else on the schedule.

one of godfrey's problems last year was being out of position or missing assignments but with him playing more of a center-fielder role, i think we may see a huge improvement from him. i feel good with him focusing in on the QB and watching to see where the ball is going to be thrown and then getting there.

also gamble made a comment in that article about the emphasis being on running to the ball and stripping it. i love that. we just have to make sure that they do it chris harris/bears style. wrap them up, take them down and then strip the ball on their way down while they are trying to brace for impact.

40% of my Panthers posts during games were about Godfrey being out of place. Drove me insane

he wasn't allowed to just 'play'....which could be said for many on the defense. too much thinking, not enough playmaking.
