Hypothetical draft day trades that fit under value chart

I referenced the trade value chart found here http://www.draftcoun...Value-Chart.php and put the points the picks are valued at in parentheses right next to each pick mentioned.

I found the draft order for every round here.http://walterfootbal...ftorder2013.php

**This order will change slightly once comp picks are awarded.

The following scnearios do not include trading any players, just draft picks. I am not promoting any of these, just providing the info for something to discuss/ponder as we await for the draft.

Trade up scenario

Trade with Browns where we aqcuire the 6th pick:

6th(1600)

The Browns would receive our 14th and 45th pick (our 1st and 2nd)

14th(1100) and 45th(450)= + 50 points for us but same exact trade occured last year between Dallas and St. Louis

Quick take:A trade like this could possibly land us Star Lotulelei but with the number of holes we have we may miss that 2nd round pick in spite of landing a top tier talent like Star.

Trade down scenarios

Trade with Bengals where we acquire the following picks:

21st(800)37th(530)and 57th(330) total value =1660

The Bengals would recieve the following picks from us:

14th(1100),45th(450), 107th(80) and 143(34.5) = 1664.5

+ 4.5 points for bengals

Quick take:

Thats a lot of picks changing hands(7 total), making it seem unlikely to happen but you never know. Not sure I how I feel about this one yet as I have no idea what kind of drop of their will be between pick 14 and 21.

Trade with Rams where we acquire the following picks:

22nd(780) and 48th(420) total value = 1200

The Rams would get these picks from us:

14th(1100) 107(80) and 174(21.8) = 1201

+ 1.8 point for Rams

Quick take: Again not sure how I feel about trading back that far in this first. I love the idea of acquiring another 2nd to replace our missing third but maybe 2nd round picks mentally have a diminsihed value in my head because of Hurneys 2nd round history.

Trade with Vikings where we aqcuire the following picks:

23rd(760) and 54th (360) total value = 1120

The Vikings would get the following from us:

14th(1100) and 174th(21.8) total value =1121.8

+ 1.8 for Vikings

Quick take: Very similar to the one listed above except in this scenario we get to keep our 4th and only have to sacrifice a 6th instead, granted we fall 1 pick further in the first and 6 further in the 2nd.

Theres several other scenarios but I only put up ones where we can gain extra picks inside the first 2 rounds.

I like that Browns trade up scenario if Star were available after the 5th pick

He's the only player I'd consider doing that trade for and even then I'm still very hesitant on doing so because of all the holes we need to fill. If Gettleman works some cap magic and finds us a couple vet upgrades in F.A. then I would become more open to the idea but at this point I am liking the idea of trading back and picking up extra picks better.

You would trade up to get Star? When we pick, there's going to be guys like Floyd, Richardson, Hankins, Williams, etc. And you would trade up?

Took the words right out of my mouth. This is a VERY DEEP DT class....

I wouldn't want to trade up but the only position worth doing it for is LT.

Agreed 100%.

There is only two players I would dream of trading up for in this draft. 1, Joeckel 2, Fisher. that's it.

This is indeed a deep draft at DT, and I would be plenty fine with Hankins at #14 and I also wouldn't mind Richardson or maybe J. Williams there (wouldn't touch Floyd in the 1st at all, even after a trade down). But in my opinion, Star is an elite prospect. I probably would be willing to give up our #2 to move up to get him. I wouldn't for Fisher. Star is the guy I want most in this draft, and it isn't even close to the second guy.

A trade I'd rather see is maybe our 1st, 4th and next year's 2nd for the Browns' 1st (or some other team in that vicinity) if we can get Star. I think that'd work out to roughly equivalent value.

    • If we don't go OT, we will regret it.  What bothers me?  Are we going to get a starting-caliber OT at 19?  I think the draft is solid at OT, and the more I read up and watch video, the more I watch Lomu, the more I want him.   I see Freeling as a RT who needs some work in run blocking (since we need to run first, maybe not a good fit) and I see Proctor ending up as a Guard.  After Lomu (assuming Mouigia and fanu are gone), I think we wait until round 2.  In round 2, there are about 3-4 I like (Zuhn--good pass blocker and VERY underrated right now; Tiernan is a very good pass blocker as is Miller from Clemson, but both are not good in the run game.  Max Ixxxxx from Ariz St is impressive too---technically, there is not a of difference in these second tier guys--good in pass pro, need work in the run game.   If we wait until round 2 for an OT, we probably need to sign Nijman and start him early.   I almost think this is what we should do if Lomu is gone.  There is a big dropoff after him, imo, and I think we'd get better value if a stud ILB or edge is there.  Someone like TJ Parker Clemson makes sense. If Lomu is gone, trading back might be the play.
    • And what is x gunna help with except show him what not to do. Plus for the first year and a half he was just an obstacle
    • I understand that some people want WR. I am solidly against using yet another high pick there. Coker is pretty good and we used No picks on him.  What I think we really need at WR is a little bit of a Smitty lite. It is ridiculous to say let’s get a Smitty because you just can’t do that, but someone not tall and long striding but more in his mold. I think we’d have a pretty well rounded group.    Looking at tackle, with replacing Moton looming, it just seems like the no brainer.  You fill in Icky short term. Depending on how he recovers, and how the new guy plays, you go from there. A tackle at 19 is most likely either a LOT, a ROT, or a big talented guard, at worst. We will need all three in the next couple of years.  I would love to have a stud ILB be there at 19 but the OL is the responsible thing to do I believe.
