Gross's new contract voids in 2014. OT now moves up priority list

This reeks of an under the table agreement for him to opt out next year and renegotiate a team friendly deal.

Still, he'll be 34 then, this is a major risk for him to take. I guess team loyalty happens sometimes?

Wow, retarded deal for Gettleman and the Panthers. Wow. It actually cost them money over the next two years vs if they had just normally cut him after this season.

Except we can now keep him at a much more reasonable price rather than cutting ties with our only serviceable LT. I don't know what illogical bent has gotten into those of you who think we can just pick up a decent LT any old place.

Yeah but it saved money for this year. That's the whole point of the thing, it allows them to keep Gross while simultaneously saving money for this year.

Your options were either not to free up money this year and keep Gross, or outright cut him this year and pray to god we could fill his spot.

He plays under his old deal, then the Panther's cut him after the season. His cap hit next year would've been like 1 million, that's how little bonus money was left in his deal. Now it's 5.6 million, he's not resigning here when he's already got a cap hit that high. He saves the team 6.8 million in this year but cost the team 4.6 million next season and this deal puts the team in a bind majorly.

It makes the team either go into next season with a rookie at LT or move up to get one in this draft and waste more valuable picks to make that trade.

Either way you go, cutting Gross next season on his old contract was a much smarter deal.

Hell it would've been smarter to cut DeAngelo Williams as a June 1st to get the cap needed for draft picks.
