Anyone else think Vaccaro would be a terrible pick?

Recommended Posts

He would be a great pick. What we need is a safety who is good in coverage especially slot receivers and tight ends. He has been universally given great marks in coverage especially in man coverage. He would be a starter and instantly improve our secondary and be around for the next decade. Would I rather have star? Of course I would but I can't argue against a guy who would be better than anyone we have on our team now in the secondary.

agreed. a much needed and dramatic upgrade is a much needed and dramatic upgrade is a much needed and dramatic upgrade.

i'm not going to quabble or moan about a weak spot getting a big boost.

Calling it right now: If Vaccaro is on the board when we are on the clock and both Star and Austin are gone...I have a feeling Gettleman is going to do everything he can to trade back.

If Vaccaro isn't our guy he is perfect trade bait ahead of the Saints. The Bengals reportedly love him and teams like the Packers have a need at safety, as well as both the 49ers and Ravens. I'd much rather trade back to any one of those teams and take Cyprien as he will likely be available still.

Phillip Thomas is just as versatile as Vaccaro and he's going the mid-rounds. I prefer Tavon Austin a 1000x over a safety who can't make tackles beyond the LOS and gets burned deep.

Interestingly enough, Thomas has the identical weaknesses but he's far superior in zone whereas Vaccaro struggles in that area.

The Panthers will not be drafting Tavon Austin.

My point is I would draft anyone but Vaccaro at 14th. He's the one prospect that I don't want. I'm good with Floyd, Allen, Hopkins, Warmack, etc but I can't stand Vaccaro.

Pretty much this. The scenario I'm hoping most for is a trade back, and to argue Gettleman's philosophy, the idea of having a dollar could still apply if we had more picks to try to address more issues: in that way, the entire draft class could end up being a dollar if we had more bandaids to address more wounds. I understand the need for secondary help, but I don't think Vaccaro is the guy and if no offensive or defensive linemen are available worthy of the #14, I think more picks helps us in the long run.

Either way, under no circumstance do I advocate trading any picks from next year's draft for this year. We really need to start having full draft classes again.

    • This while he didn't single handily LOSE the game on any one play.....    He was a first overall pick, one we paid a fortune for..... the bar for him is a 10 foot dunk not a 5"8 children's rim.   32 for 49 for 287 with 1 td and 1 int in two games vs the worst team in the conference, two critically important games that we would be 9-5 and competing for the #2 if he had led us to victory....   Ive given him props for the TD to tet.... it was the best pass ive ever seen him make.....   But putting up these kind of numbers isn't up to par. Defenses stack the box and dare him to throw....  and he still puts up medicore at best numbers.    To win with Bryce young the entire rest of the team has to be absolutely perfect to make up for his deficiencies.... so while he didn't "lose" this game for us..... HE DEFFINATLY DIDNT GO WIN IT FOR US. (Which is the REALISTIC EXPECTATION)
    • His O is just built on taking repeated shots and that’s not BY’s game.  It was always a round peg and square hole…. But I also agree with your post.  I hate OC HCs.  Especially green ones.   I never liked anything about the setup
    • I get that. He's also trying to do HC and OC this year which I think is just too much for him. I think it's hard to call plays from the sidelines. That view from up top helps them see what a defense is doing better. A few HCs can do it because they have the QBs and experience to pull it off. DC has neither. I think DC may have spread himself too thin and Bryce isn't the QB to be able to pull of his end of it either. How much they compliment each other in creating this offensive bleh, yet to be determined. Doesn't really matter because it's still awful.
