Five NFC teams that failed to fill needs (ATL & CAR included)

Recommended Posts

Carolina Panthers, wide receiver

Steve Smith's revival alongside quarterback Cam Newton is well-documented. But Smith turns 34 this month and Carolina has little depth at the wide receiver position beyond Brandon LaFell, an underwhelming target who makes better sense as a third option. The recently signed Ted Ginn and Domenik Hixon are patches. With a rare talent like Newton running the show, the Panthers' failure to surround him with more dynamic pass-catchers is baffling.

Atlanta Falcons, pass rusher

The Falcons did fine work upgrading their secondary by adding cornerbacks Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford in the first two rounds. But general manager Thomas Dimitroff failed to land a premier pass rusher. Fourth-rounder Malliciah Goodman is a long-armed defensive end out of Clemson, but he's little more than a rotational player out of the gate. Atlanta will struggle to put heat on quarterbacks unless 31-year-old Osi Umenyiora catches on fire.

Is Smith the oldest #1 WR in the NFL? Man, I love him, but I seriously hope there is a real talent for us to take at WR in the first round of the 2014 Draft.

How old is Reggie Wayne?  He's right up there with Smitty in age.  Andre Johnson is up there too.  Can't think of any others who might be close.  Fitz is just behind them, think he's like 30-31ish.

Reggie Wayne is 34, Wes Welker is 32,  Andre Johnson is 31, Roddy White is 31 and Fitzgerald is 29.   Those are the older 1000 yard receivers in the NFL.

Last time Moss went over 1000 yards was in 2009 when he was 33.

Smitty is 34 and it's likely that he won't go over 1000 yards but one more time in his career.

Randy Moss says hi. Had over 4000 yards before Smitty ever returned that kickoff against Minnesota.

Says hi about what....he has been on 4 teams the last 3 years, only played 2 of the last 3, and most yardage in that window was 400 rec yardage.

What miss, Smitty, whoever did years ago means little to nothing. These guys are completely different players now

so here's the plan guys.....

1) we sit around and talk about how  tough smitty is and attack everyone who mentions the idea that he is getting older and could break down

2) we talk about the lack of respect that guys like lafell get  and talk about future possible studs like antonio bryant hoping that they are the next victor cruz

3) we don't draft anyone in the first round unless they are as good as aj green and megatron because it's dumb to not get a sure thing WR in the first. i mean it's ok if it's me other position, but WR they have to be megatron good, and no, it doesn't matter that you have a mid first round pick and guys that good only come around every 5 years or so and rarely make it much past the first 5 picks

4) wait until the next year to do something instead of try something now because now is never a good time

5) get more of everything else because everything else will help cam in the passing game more than a guy who actually catches the ball

6) championship

sound like a good plan?

me too.

the WR talk baffles me....

Only draft WRs that are projected like AJ Green....the others are too big of a gamble.  Tons of #1 WRs come from the 2nd and 3rd rounds and didn't project like Green.  Many have projected like Green and stink.

We need talent.  Cam is entering his 3rd year and we have drafted no one....and added just Olsen.  Trying to pimp 1 yr bandaids or gimmick roleplayers as building around him is comical.
