Greg Hardy seeks 50 sacks in Carolina Panthers' D (NFL.com)

Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy is no stranger to outlandish statements or crazy predictions. Not about to allow contract wishes to distract him from a "dominant" season, Hardy has set a lofty goal of 50 sacks this season.

"Why shoot low, right? If I'm going to shoot at it ... I'm going to shoot at a little bird with a 50-caliber bullet," Hardy said, via The Associated Press. "That's the goal for this year, 50 sacks, that's where I'm at."

With the addition of rookie defensive tackles Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short, Hardy has dubbed the Panthers' defensive line "Monsters Inc." Hardy already had coined himself the Kraken last year. Bookend pass rusher Charles Johnson has now been labeled the Loch Ness Monster.

"This year, it's complete domination, savage, ruthless, disgusting all-out Kraken-type stuff," Hardy said. "Except it's going to spread. I'm tired of having to stick up for everybody. We're about to come out with a nasty attitude. It's going to be monstrous."

Although Hardy raised speculation that he could hold out after skipping organized team activities, he insisted Tuesday that he will report to training camp on time. Even if he manages just a quarter of his sacks goal in 2013, he will be a candidate for the Panthers' franchise tag next offseason.

Title: Greg Hardy seeks 50 sacks in Carolina Panthers' D

Responses:
This dude is a clown for making this statement...but then again, Panthers fans are stupid enough to believe it is actually possible for one player to get 50 sacks. Dont try telling them that nobody has ever recorded even half that many in one season. That's history and logic...two things Panther fans are not familiar with.

This dude is on crack, the whole defense ask a team maybe but him say no to drugs.

He should set a more realistic goal than 50, like 12...a benchmark he's never reached. LMAO, moron.

So absurd. People can't read. Not even a title.

It was a pretty dumb statement and as expected was based by many.

We would be bashing any player on another team who made a similar statement.

First Kalil last year with the newspaper ad and now thus.

We have won 6 and 7 games the past two seasons. Given that, I would prefer that our guys keep quiet and go about their business.

Yeh, I didn't like that kalil did that. It put pressure on the team. However, hardy didn't say he would get 50. He said thats the goal.

Also, I wouldn't be bashin someone else for makin the same statement. Granted, i might laugh, but having a high goal isnt bad. I mean it sounds crazy, but maybe that's what we need......

It wasn't a dumb statement at all. We should be happy that our players are showing some swag and confidence instead of this tow the JR line for Harris Teeter discount BS.

Whether the team wins or not has nothing to do with setting goals and being vocal about it.

    • I mean, no I’m not going to panic when he got 2 Qs and looked great in 1 and looked not great in another (let’s not mention the drop).    Yeah we finally have a team that would be considered average offensively around him. Let’s roll this season.
    • The woe is me everything but Bryce sucks mantra is stale af my friend. Look nobody here is going to argue with the fact Frank Reich was not a good head coach. At the same time. Bryce Young is now in his second season with his second coaching staff and a handpicked young offensive head coach who has been known for working with QB's such as Baker and Geno. As far as the offensive pieces around Bryce we have the 4th highest salary cap allocation (that might be even higher now after the new Moton deal) dedicated to the OL in the entire league. We have 2 first round WR's one of them 8th overall the first time we've ever selected a WR that high in franchise history. And the fact of the matter is Bryce Young did not have a good preseason. It's not the first time it's happened either. We all hope to see he and the rest of the team flip a switch in week 1. But we should all be able to agree that the offensive performances we've seen from the entire QB room (Bryce included) in preseason was simply unacceptable.
    • We have seen Bryce play… what… 9 games with AT BEST what one would consider NFL average WRs? You just can’t see the forest for the trees and keep going back to your lazy take of revisionist history.    he looked AWFUL Y1 with the worst coaching I’ve ever seen in the NFL and one of the weakest WR rooms I can recall. He looked awful first half of y2 and great second half of y2 with average coaching and average skill position. I don’t know where this elite talent argument even comes from.
