Nike mixes up North and South Carolina on T-shirt

Recommended Posts

The company wanted to promote the Carolina Panthers, but its shirt used a map of the wrong state for the team to the north.

North Carolina, South Carolina -- same difference, right?

Apparently the states are interchangeable to Nike (NKE -1.03%), which has proved not only to be one of the most effective sports-apparel marketers around but one of the most geographically challenged.

Nike fumbled with a T-shirt (pictured) celebrating the Carolina Panthers, the football team based in North Carolina. It paired the team's logo with a graphic of South Carolina, Charlotte Observer columnist Scott Fowler reports.

Since the error was pointed out, Nike has pulled the link to the $32 shirt and is investigating the error.

"It indicates that someone associated with Nike believed that the Panthers play in South Carolina. Or that North Carolina's silhouette looked like South Carolina. Or something," Fowler notes.

We are like the Rodney Dangerfields of the NFL

Hoping we change that this season.

If I were Rivera, I would buy a box, give every player one and then show them the tape of the Panthers destroying the Cowboys in the playoffs years ago and Lamar Lathon asking on camera, "do you know where Charlotte/NC is now?" I swear I cannot remember if he said Charlotte or NC, but I was delirious anyway cause we thumeped the Boys

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
