PFF posts its ratings for all teams

PFF's ratings are based on stats. How can you expect them to give a high grade to someone who's been injured last year? They're not gonna invent some training camp, recovering-from-injury metric just for something like this. I trust these guys -- their evaluations are certainly more justified than the regular fan's.

If it was just based on stats they wouldn't have graded Cam and Tannehill the same.

I do like PFF and usually value their stat systems.  This time, however, I think there is less value in what they're saying.  And I'm not even just complaining about what they said about some Panthers.  Like someone pointed out above, if Jimmy Graham isn't an elite TE who the hell is?!  A fully healthy Gronk is the only TE that's better than Graham today.  Which means Graham is the best and will probably be the best for a while to come.  And rating Dwan Edwards the same as Nakamura is a joke.  Dwan was bad in run defense, but good in pass defense.  In every aspect of the game, Nakamura was worse than Dwan's worst aspect.

If it grades out on stats, then how was Luck given the second highest color rating when he had one of the worst passer ratings in football last year?

It's all hype man. No matter what site you are reading and feel like they know more than the other guys, it's all hype. Cam had a comparable year to his rookie year from an efficiency standpoint, but his hype died because of all the losses. Meanwhile, Bob Knee, Luck, and Kaepernick all received the media hype, and so have graded out higher. Even Kuechly is ridiculous. He is the best 4-3 MLB in football and if he played for a hyped team like Dallas he'd of gotten a blue elite rating.

Guys, here is the deal in short:

This is NOT based stats or opinions.

This is what they do:

1. Check every play on the coaches view cameras.

2. Check every "battle" on that play, can be anything like a guard trying to block a dt, a wr trying to do a catch or a lb trying to cover the flat.

3. If you clearly win your battle, you grade some positive number on the play, if you lose you grade minus and of course no score change if you draw.

* So a player like Luke (last year) did not grade elite even though his run blocking abilities graded that way because he graded negatively in pass protection.

* The system will also over value player that do a very high number of easy assignments (like the short passes RGIII or Alex Smith are asked to do).

* Also note that they try to isolate one player, so a qb will grade positively on a incompletion on a perfect pass if the receiver should have caught it but dropped it.

Even though it is not perfect, it is by far the based grading system out there (available to us fans anyway).

    • My unbelievable pile is touching the moon now-a-days. Bill is ultra control freak if there was ever one in the NFL, he's the guy. He stayed off SM and hate hate hated the media..........(wow bill what did you do in 2024??!?!?!).  So this guy, 100% control freak, just gave away all his SM to a 24 year old?? He doesn't understand SM at all... This is the same level as 8 time SB winner coming to coach UNC, after all this NIL BS that drove out his other control freak coaching friends.  This time line is insane.
    • Unless its 2021 renfrow, Moore is 30, jimmy horn was picked 208 in a weak draft.... I mean they just rid of Clowney cause of number of snaps, so Moore could follow that. NFL is unforgiving missing a full year and deal with disease is very hard to over come.  The only locks are- Tmac, XL, AT. Coker is close, but if he shows up in poor shape, he could be cut.  If horn wins the 5th, all George has to do is show he's more valuable than the listed above. renfrow could be a PS guy as he continues to get back in NFL shape. Moore has been on like 8 teams and just a fine fit with the Dave system.  I mean for the first time in I don't know when, there is a real battle to make the #4-#6 WR room. It's good to cut good players...  Lastly who knows, one or two injuries hit and George easily makes the 53. I got him currently as the #6. 4 others are right there too, I heard Dave say Kobe Hudson name during a presser. He's in the mix too.
