How comfortable are all of you with Garry?

Comfortable isn't a word I would use to describe my feelings about Williams starting at RG.

The way things are going, if I'm Cam Newton's agent, I'm telling the Panthers not to even come and talk to me about a possible extension until they can field an NFL caliber OL. Just think about our OL next year if Gross retires... horrifying.

I'm fine with the piggy move because even if Garry's performance is as bad piggy's would have been then at least w4M over the next 2 years (piggy's contract). If garry plays the same or better (at minimum this move is a wash) we continue to gain much needed future cap space

While that is/was true of Rivera in the past...his ass is on the line this year, and early. If he doesn't win (aka, protect Cam), while breaking in a new offensive coordinator, who seemingly wants to run the ball more, upgrading an aging and rather mediocre OL should be a priority.

They may stand pat and obviously know more about the situation/players than I, but if Rivera likes his job, they will be signing someone with the cap space Getts created.

People who are upfront....IMO you continue to take them that way until proven otherwise. Rivera is pretty honest about things.

Rivera can't sign guys.... so him wanting to stay the coach doesn't mean he gets the help he wants.

haven't read them. i can't believe anyone would look at that right side, tho, and feel good about what is going on. it's been the biggest glaring weakness since the draft and it's been a glaring weakness for a couple years.

 

you are either getting better or getting worse. we aren't getting better from this move so far. that leaves one option...we just got worse. we have to be moving forward.

 

i agree with letting piggie go. i don't agree with sitting on what we have. i think it's a mistake. i'm hoping that we will be picking someone up soon.

it to an extent reminds me of the kasay deal only in that it was the right thing to move on from him...the biggest problem was who we replaced him with. that was the mistake there and until proven otherwise, anticipating williams to be anything close to an upgrade at this moment is a mistake.

i hope it's a smokescreen. i'm not sold that it is.

Even Deadspin in their silly joke column....knows enough to point out that weak right OL. No one needs to read Dator tweets. OL easily could be WORSE this year.

The only anxiety here should be waiting to hear when we are going to be signing some guards and who they are.  We surely are not going to be going into the season with who we have.  Gettleman is the hog molly guy.  That means on both sides of the ball.  After he did what he has to fix the D line, can you doubt he isn't going to try and fix the O line.  And if he is a professional scout by experience, wont he be bringing in a few guys?  Likely those players might not be well known but I hope they are solid.  I can't say Gettleman has done anything wrong so far .

Considering our GM loves hog mollies more than anybody I know.... he must see something in the guys.

Young guys develop, otherwise this league wouldn't even exist.

I'm looking forward to see how our guys do in games, especially before I try to judge them.

Garry was on track to be the starting RG in the 2011 preseason before he broke his ankle, Rivera acknowledged that he struggled early last year to return to form but as the season went on he kept improving. Apparently he has really impressed the coaching staff this offseason to the point that they feel he's ready to be the starting RG again, so this gives me confidence. 

 

Having said all this, it's clear we're very interested in Wharton. Rivera said we're not looking to bring in a FA to fill the RG position but this could be semantics since we could end up bring Wharton in to play LG and sliding Silatolu over to RG.
