Steve Smith, a look back....

Good read looking back at 89s career, puts into perspective how awesome he really is...

  • In 2008, Delhomme was back, although Smith was suspended for the first two games of the season. But his fourteen game stat line was typical Smith: 78 catches, 1,421 yards, and 6 touchdowns. His 101.5 receiving yards per game average was a league and personal best. But wait: the 2008 Panthers finished 32nd in the league in pass attempts that year. Think for a second how crazy it is to lead the league in receiving yards per game on the least-pass happy team in the NFL. The Seahawks (last year’s cellar dweller in pass attempts), even with Russell Wilson, didn’t produce an 800-yard receiver last year. In terms of receiving yards per team pass attempt, Smith’s 2008 season was the best in modern history, with Smith’s 2005 season as the second best.

Great read, and no surprise to Panthers fans who have followed his career - really glad I've seen him play all these years.  Jake actually led the league in yards per completion in 2008, one of those hidden stats that really says a lot about how that offense executed.

I really enjoyed the look back. I love Smitty all the way back to the thug life days. His career stats need to note how he dominated as the only threat on a run first team for years.

Smitty is his prime 2nd only to someone like Moss or Calvin Johnson. He's one of the most dangerous weapons to play the game. I just hope that Smith can play at a high level for a couple more years and hopefully Cam can help make up for some lost time and get Smitty in the HOF.

My take on Smitty's career curteousy of Slim Shady...

When you're so good that you can't say it
'Cause it ain't even cool for you to sound cocky anymore
People just get sick cause you spit
These fools can't drool or dribble a drop anymore
And you can never break my stride
You never slow the momentum at any moment I'm about to blow
You'll never take my pride
Killing the flow, slow venom and the opponent
Is getting no mercy, mark my words
Ain't letting up, relentless
I smell blood, I don't give a fug: keep giving them hell
Where was you when I fell and needed help up?
You get no love
