Cam's Throwing Stance

The story about Cam never really learning the proper way to throw as a kid reminds me of another all time great and his early training.

Even though he played Baseball and we are talking football, Hank Aaron grew up playing stick ball and he gripped the "bat" cross handed.

Anyway there's my random story for the day. Gnite

Even though he played Baseball and we are talking football, Hank Aaron grew up playing stick ball and he gripped the "bat" cross handed. This became so natural for him even after making it to the pros he never switched it.

Aaron actually changed his swing to the normal way in the minors.

People would talk about Cam's throwing motion during the draft and I could never understand how they could ding it, because it was a gorgeous high, quick release. Sure, it was a little wrists, but that gave him a huge number of platforms and ways to throw it. It's not how he throws, but his footwork, that was ever an issue. He just has to keep working on setting his feet, but the throw itself is fantastic.

This.

Cam has one of the, if not the strongest arm in the league, and sometimes that's a bad thing.  QB's lean on that arm strength and don't get the footwork down.  Think Cutler and Stafford.

If he gets the footwork down, and the comp %'s up just a bit, he will be a very dangerous QB.  And if he doesn't, he is still a good QB that you can win playoff games with.

Cam's throwing ability in his arm is right near the very best in the league, as FP said, it's his footwork that continues to hinder him from realizing his full potential. Hope Dorsey stays on him about it (which camp photos reveal that he has)

Cam has all the physical and mental ability and the leadership potential to be an elite QB in the NFL, regardless of what some douchy national guys want to project.

Cam didn't win the Heisman or a National Championship b/c he didn't have those qualities.

Cam is prone to being inconsistent in his fundamentals, especially his footwork, as people pointed out.  Some of it can be blamed on porous O-Line play, but some of it is on Cam too though.

Cam plays in a small market.  It is always easier for the national media to poo on smaller market teams.  RG3 would not be the sensation he is had he went to St. Louis instead of Washington.  Had Luck been in Washington, he would have won OROY.  Just the way it is.

That being said, the only way small market teams get respect is wins.  Simple as that.  No one nationally gives a poo about any of the other teams in the NFC South either.  They are not big historic sports markets and there is not a winning tradition.

ATL & NO get attention now b/c they have won recently.  There is nothing compelling about ATL outside of them winning.  They are a boring FB team.  NO got more press fro Bounty-Gate than they did winning the SB.

Cam needs to make throws to win games.  No excuses.  That is the way he and the Panthers get respect.  Gettleman gets it.

I remember reading about this as a kid. He did bat cross-handed as a youngster and was very good

at it. As the coaches tried to move him away from it he would switch back and forth. If their dugout was

on the first base side he would hit traditional but, if the dugout was on the third base side he would hit

cross-handed as the coaches couldn't see his hands. Can't remember how long he did this.

Also......I almost want to say he hit cross-handed (early on) in the majors. Just not sure.

    • I think in all honestly, the final 2 games are carrying most of the weight in a lot of Bryce talk IMO.    During the window where he "blew it out of the water" window......were a lot of games where he was not above average.  AZ is largely one of those stat sheet games.   Where the stat sheet reflects QB play that didn't exist in the game.  That game was all Chuba.  Meh vs Dallas.  Meh vs Philly.  Meh vs Giants.  Probably average vs Tampa, Den, Saints.  Bryce made HUGE strides vs what he was.  We should be happy.   But when you start comparing him to the rest of the league.....people I think are going too far.  His best aspect in reality.....is his scrambling.  And that's probably not a great thing give his size.
    • Mays and Zavala looked lost in the Reich offense.  Granted Zalava was probably playing too soon due to injuries but he looked terrible.  This new staff seems to be doing well with our OL.  I also wonder if having two vets in Hunt and Lewis just made life that much easier on whoever was/is playing center.
    • What the Panthers should target in order (via free agency or via trade): 1. Julian Blackmon  2. Mike Hilton 3. Jaire Alexander 4. Jalen Ramsey
