Beason traded?

Maybe it's a matter of optimism. Most people are being optimistic about the success of 7th rounders, I'm being more optimistic about a player that can definitely still be serviceable as a LB.

But Beason isn't even really serviceable at this point. He's been awful dating back to last season before he went on I.R. I would actually rather a healthy A.J. Klein play if Luke, Blackburn, or Davis goes down than a gimpy Beason who is a shell of his former self. He may well have never seen the field again this year. At least this year we get SOMETHING for him.

It's not about who we get with the pick. It's about our GM getting value for a player that, from a purely front office POV, has little to none at this point due to injury. Once they made the decision to start Blackburn Beason was done as a Panther. I don't know that they would have even put him on the field over Klein in the event of an injury TBH. He's been that bad.

The fact that we got anything at all for Beason is to Gettleman's credit. Between his injury history and poor play dating back to last season I'm surprised there was ANY interest in a trade. The Giants are essentially taking a flyer on Beason and hoping for that slim chance that he regains his past form and can stay healthy. You're still judging Beason on the player he used to be. He's very likely done as an NFL player at this point, as sad as that is to say. I hate it for him and hope he proves me wrong, but the point you seem to be missing here is that even if he does return to form he was never going to get the opportunity to do it here.

this ^^^

whether he's recovered yet, ever will recover, or not, we still just traded a former all-pro who is still in his 20s for a pick that will likely be used on a guy that never makes it higher than the practice squad. doesnt make sense to me

it was either that or nothing for him after this season where he's likely to be getting only about 5-10 snaps per game so he can play out of position.

sorry, considering what i've seen from him the past couple years and was likely to see the rest of the season, i take the offer.

something is better than nothing. no one was going to be offering more for him.

You moved a questionable asset for a pick that you normally wouldn't have.

Players also respect moving a guy who likely wants to be moved. He can move into their mlb spot and possibly save his career.

Not only is this a mutual gain, it's the right thing to do

That is the most miserable collection of threads I've ever heard of. Dude I'm so sorry. I stick with the greats, Moose, Minter, Smitty, Kevin Green, etc..

I have him beat. Right now i have Beason, and Stewart. Had Peppers,Jenkins.

My wife wanted a Fua when we drafted him, so she had one custom made. When he got caned she got Luke. so now i have my wife having the only worth while jerseys in the house and one of them if FUA!!!!! let that sink in.

Did you guys actually watch Beason this preseason or in his games this year? He was offering nothing on the field at all. Any active linebacker would have been better. There's a chance that if Blackburn had started against Seattle and Buffalo, we'd be 3-0 right now.

And I love Beason, let me reiterate that. He beat the crap out of Greg Frye, Charlotte's biggest troll. For that, he deserves his own statue.

I'm sure a lot of this had to do with Beason the Beast himself.  He knows he has no contract after this year.  If he's on the bench how does he prove he can still play and worthy of a contract for some team.  I'm sure he had a sit down with RR and staff to suggest a trade.  He's a great guy was and hopefully still a great player and has and will always be a great Panther!!!! KEEP POUNDING.....

Beason's contract considered we should have been sending 52 and a 2nd for their 7th.

Somebody in the Giants FO must have lost a massive bet to getts.

He wasn't due to be a free agent.  Please show me where that is because all I see is his contract runs through 2016.  Now the signing bonus you might be right. But that still frees up 6.5 mil

Two different statements, but one reply will work for both.

After Beason's restructure, his salary is only 1 million this year with a possible 1.75 million in "active roster bonuses", the remaining money on the contract is dead money. His contract voids 5 days into FA this off season and we would no longer be on the hook for any dead money.

His maximum cap hit for the year is around 6.75 if you include the active bonuses. The Giants ONLY pick up the remaining owed portion of the 1 million (13/16ths) and the remaining active roster bonuses. So this move saves us just around 2 million and that's it.

    • MORGAN ON PLAY CALLER FOR CANALES   "I think that's really his [Canales'] call," he stated. "I think if he wants to promote somebody into being the play-caller or bring somebody from the outside. We haven't really talked about that. But that is something that I'm sure we'll talk about. We talk about every decision together. If he feels like he needs to add somebody or promote somebody into being the play-caller, then I trust him."
    • Dude, he cannot see the field, when his feet are not set he throws ducks.   What the fug are you watching?
    • I'm looking at the final drive, and that's where I'm laying the blame at Bryce's feet. Stepping up to the line, 38 seconds left, 3 time outs on the clock. 30 yards needed to attempt a FG. It's not Bryce's job to call the plays, that's DC's and it was terrible play calling.  It's Bryce's job to read what the defense is giving him at the line. The middle of the field is open. Rams are guarding against the deep ball and bringing pressure leaving the middle of the field ripe for the taking. Knowing his line not holding up for long, Bryce should have read the defense, called the audible, and thrown to the middle of the field for 6- 8 yards, like you said, quick slants would have worked. Then run either hurry up or call a TO. We had time. He has to make the adjustments. Any QB has to make the adjustments.  The pass Horn dropped hit his hands but was at his knees. Should he have slid and caught it? Probably. Was the pass a good one? No it wasn't. Both players were at fault, not just Horn. Let's not pretend that Bryce threw a beautiful pass that hit the receiver chest high right in the hands in perfect stride because that damn sure wasn't the throw.  The defense didn't choke away a lead. They never had a real lead. Choking away a lead is being up by multiple scores late in the 4th and losing. We were up by 4 and handed the ball back to a potential MVP with an All pro WR and potential future HoF WR2. One score games in the 4th are a slug fest. 28-3. That's choking away a lead.  I don't solely blame Bryce for the game, but you seem to solely blame the defense for the game because they went to prevent after losing Horn. You are forgetting the short field that the offense left them that led to the early Puka TD on one of our 2 failed 4th down conversions. Our defense has been given very limited resources over the past 3 years while we have tried to put everything possible around Bryce. We added a little bit to the D this year after giving up a NFL record in points last year. Our defense overachieved based on what they've been given to work with.
