Farewell to Jon Beason

We should also remember how Jon handled Luke coming in here and taking his spot.  He could not have handled that situation with more class.

I look forward to the day Beason has his number retired here.

Not a chance that Beason's number gets retired.  He did not do enough to come close to warranting that honor.

Meh, I felt worse after Pep left.

Peppers didn't want to be here for the long haul. He made that clear.

For me, it's always tougher to see guys leave who really love their team and their city and want to play there forever. I wish Beason could retire a Panther, but this is the nature of the business. Simply put, Beason signed a big contract, got banged up and is losing his role on this team.

I talked to Beason after he was first moved to OLB a few years ago.  He was positive and upbeat.  Then he sang Luke's praises and accepted a lesser role.

He was with Davis throughout his rehab.

Beason will be better in the middle, but I have to wonder how his body has held up through several years of the pounding a MLB gets.

I hope he fires that Defense up in NY and takes it to the Saints, Falcons, and Bucs.  He will bring them knowledge and leadership.

I'm glad for him to get a shot, something that wasn't going to happen here.

Great player his first few years.

No trouble off the field.

Class act when transitioning Luke into his spot.

Took a paycut so something like this could happen.

Long term he helped the team.

This is exactly what I would have hoped to do in Beasons and DG's spot.

Good luck Jon.

    • Yeah they were bad QBs - but QB's that stayed on their teams for several years.  BY is better than all of those.
    • This is the right move even if you think Bryce isn't the future. Everything except signing him to a long term deal until proven otherwise. There's a decent chance we have a shot to draft a QB next year that we like.
    • If we're still bad enough that Canales gets fired, especially if it's during the season, there is no way we could ever attract any HC worthy of the job if we told them they had to keep Bryce their first year. That would be 2 coaches he's gotten fired and 4 years of not performing up to par. I still say replace both of them next offseason.  I like Canales the man and I think he's done an absolutely outstanding job at fixing our locker room issues, as it was really bad before he showed up.  But I just don't see it from him with his in game decision making, I think he's held us back just as much as Bryce has, just in different ways. Canales was our Dan Campbell, the coach you hire to turn the franchises culture around for the HC after them to inherit and take to the next level.   The difference was he had some elite coordinators early on and really let him focus on his "leader of men" role as opposed to the X's and O's that Canales does himself and it's turned out well for him.
