Jonathon Martin

Martin's lawyer has released a statement:

Jonathan Martin’s toughness is not at issue. Jonathan has started every game with the Miami Dolphins since he was drafted in 2012. At Stanford, he was the anchor for Jim Harbaugh’s “smash mouth” brand of football and he protected Andrew Luck’s blind side.

The issue is Jonathan’s treatment by his teammates. Jonathan endured harassment that went far beyond the traditional locker room hazing. For the entire season-and-a-half that he was with the Dolphins, he attempted to befriend the same teammates who subjected him to the abuse with the hope that doing so would end the harassment. This is a textbook reaction of victims of bullying. Despite these efforts, the taunting continued. Beyond the well-publicized voice mail with its racial epithet, Jonathan endured a malicious physical attack on him by a teammate, and daily vulgar comments such as the quote at the bottom. These facts are not in dispute.

Eventually, Jonathan made a difficult choice. Despite his love for football, Jonathan left the Dolphins. Jonathan looks forward to getting back to playing football. In the meantime, he will cooperate fully with the NFL investigation.

Quote from teammate: “We are going to run train on your sister. . . . She loves me. I am going to f–k her without a condom and c– in her c—.”

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24199319/police-report-filed-against-incognito-for-simple-battery-in-2012

According to the report filed in Aventura, Fla., Incognito harassed a 34-year-old female volunteer at the team's annual "Fins Weekend Golf Tournament." The tournament was held on May 18, 2012 at the Turnberry Resort and Club in Aventura.

The woman was working as a hole monitor at the event and, according to the police report, while she was performing her duties, Incognito approached her and rubbed his golf club against her private area. According to the accuser, Incognito had been drinking and was acting inappropriately.

Eventually, Incognito rubbed against her butt with his privates and began saying, "Let it Rain. Let it Rain." After that, Incognito emptied a bottled water on her face.

The woman notified her supervisor, who notified Dolphins security. According to the woman, there were several witnesses, but none of them offered to help. However, former Dolphins receiver Nate Moore -- who didn't witness the incident -- did apologize to the woman after he heard about what happened.

The woman eventually filed a police report because she was under the belief that nothing was being done. The woman wanted an apology from Incognito, but she never received one.

lol i can understand why some people would doubt martin's side of the story in a vacuum, but how many reports does it take to realize that richie incognito is an absolute waste of human flesh? why would you not assume he is the problem here?

I dont assume Incognito is not part of the problem. I also dont assume that the media is a responsible entity that isnt just blurting out whatever they can of this without regard to a cohesive truth. Its a soap opera that they are selling. Soap operas need villains and good guys and they dont care who is who and will switch them up as soon as it seems like a possible selling point.

With this new report concerning Incognito at a golf event, this makes both him and the team almost public enemy number one.  I think the whole nation is going to be rooting for the Bucs on Monday night.  I would like to see them get blown out, or as Emmitt Smith would say "blowed out".

We all knew this went beyond Incognito when the Dolphins' marquee players started coming out in his defense. They're supposed to be the locker room leaders and the face of the organization, and instead of denouncing Incognito's obviously over-the-top "hazing" attempts and promising to do better, they defended the guy.

That tells us all one thing, and one thing only: they knew about it. And they did absolutely nothing to ensure that Martin was being brought into the fold. They're either cowards or bullies, themselves--and probably both. The coach is probably the biggest person to blame here, too, since he was the only guy with more power in that locker room than Incognito.

So while a lot of people are dropping cheap platitudes about Martin needing to "man up," the truth is that "manning up" means defending the victim, even if it costs you a friendship or two. Our society is not run by mob rule; the Dolphins locker room was obviously run by mob rule.

Stamp it out. Incognito is only the first to fall in all this.

Look at the military in the past and jobs that have a do anything to win attitude.  You're in a bubble and when anybody steps outside the "family" the others circle the wagons and protect their own.  You see this type of thing in locker rooms, the military, police department, fire stations, etc.  You take care of your own.  You take whatever anyone dishes out or fight back.  There isn't any other options.  Not if you want to stay part of the club.

How many times in these situations does the institution not close ranks?

Not all are like this.  There are plenty of places and locker rooms that are not run according to Darwin's laws.

Martin did the right thing.  The smart thing.  Standing up for yourself only works if it causes the bully to back down or if you beat his ass.  The bullies don't always back down.  Sometimes they just draw a gun or stab you in the neck with a pair of scissors.  It happens all the time with this type of gang mentality. In the real world what happens is after you stand up to the bully he doesn't suddenly respect you or leave you alone.  He plots revenge.  And that's when somebody gets pistol whipped.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
