Looking at NE. How will we fare against Brady if the front can't get any pressure?

So San Francisco had the best offensive line and we blew it up.  Now supposedly New England has the best offensive line.  Another opportunity to blow this one up as well. If this line is so good then why have they given up 26 sacks?  The same number we have and we suck right??  They are rushing for 129 yards a game we are rushing for 128.  They are averaging 26 points a game and we are averaging 24.  Seems our offenses are similar.

 

The difference will be our defense.

This is why our defense is playing so well. Our corners are VERY physical and excel in press coverage off the line. Remember, we no longer have Norman giving 80 yard cushions at the snap. If they play 3 step drops all game then White, Captain, and Florence - not to mention TD and Keek - are going to be busting their soft receivers in the mouth over and over again at the line. 

 

When those don't work they'll go shotgun and 5-7 step drops and we know what happens then - sack lunches for everyone. 

 

Of course, we won't shut down their offense entirely, though it's not out of the realm of possibility, but don't expect the Pats to put up obscene numbers. I doubt they score more than 20.

Hey, I know it could get ugly, and the Pats could put up 40+ on us. I just don't see that happening.

If things go as planned, we win TOP, and score some points doing so.

Our Defense plays its normal game, and puts consistent pressure on the Pats.

Brady is notoriously good against blitzes...so what pressure we can get on him has to come from our front four.

Getting consistent pressure with just 4 is ideal, but if you are going to blitz, you had better get there.

 

 

idk but our offense needs to be efficient as fug and score a couple of touchdowns. we can't realistically expect our defense to shut opponents down week in and week out.

Why not? Shut down, maybe not. How about harass and Bully them into submission? All the while letting you have a modicum of success. Just enough to give you hope, just not enough for any actual damage to be done.

But yeah, 10 points may win us a game or two, but you cannot count on winning many games either. Just glad we can now win when Cam struggles, or the O in general. That speaks volumes about the character, and teamwork, this team possesses.

But yeah 2, we have 5 receivers with 35 or more rec., we are not actually totally struggling. So there is that.

Pressure early and often. Knock him down, hurry some throws, sack his azz plenty, just basically schitt on his perfect little world. Cover well, tackle well, and pressure well, three things we do well, and we can win this game.

 

 

They are 28th against the run. The game plan should be to run, run, then either play action or read option. Long drives, control the clock, limit Brady's possesions. The Aint's are 20th against the run, so it would be a similar approach to them.

We usually run more than we pass, but if we can be successful this week it would help emensely. Unless passing is just to successful to ignore, we will do our level best to run the ball this week.

Also, with the Pats any stoppage of time hurts you, so those inc. passes kill you. If we can run, and stay on schedule, we have the path to glory. And make no mistake my fiend. When we finish with the Pats, we will be considered 1 of the top teams. In the league. 7-3 with a 6 game winning streak.

We'll get pressure. We'll get lots of pressure. The more I think of this defense, the more I realize something: they know how good they are. They thrive on the fear of other teams. They are the type of defense that smiles when teams refuse to do anything too risky against them. They love to hit you in the mouth as hard as possible and encourage you to come back for more.


Now imagine that defense that I just described getting solo attention on the national stage for the entire night while going up against an AFC leader and a team that many are looking at to at least make a deep playoff run, if not the Super Bowl. They are chomping at the bit for this chance. And they're going to get it.

The quick three step drops is a great way to take away our pass rush.  The problem with doing that aganst our defense, is we have players who don't miss tackles and the patriots have a ton of unproven talent at WR.  Luke and TD absolutely clean everything up, which makes those three step drops turn into 2-3 yard pass gains.

 

The key will be stopping Ridley and forcing brady into 3rd and 7yards+.  If we do that, we get to him and put him on the ground.

 

This defense is made to stop an offense like New England (see New Orleans and Atlanta last year).  Negate the run game, pressure the passer, and hit the QB. 

I was about to say the same thing.   We haven't had to play anyone like this we but we are built to defeat DINK AND DUNK.

Well we haven't played a high powered passing attack like this one yet. I expect them to use quick 3 step drops to slowdown the pressure of our front 4. With reduced pressure I can easily see Brady picking us apart, especially with Bilicheat getting 2 weeks to prepare. We might actually need our offense to win this game for us. Good thing is that their run D is pretty laughable without big ol' wilfork. Thoughts?

 

SF has a very good O-line with a bunch of 1st round picks. We had no trouble pressuring Kap.

 

NE will have to take shots down field that take time to develope. Short passes are not going to get it done. If NE wants to come out with a lot of short passes, then they're playing right into our hands. Inching your way down the field with short passes comes at a price. Instead of your big RB taking hits, your WRs get punished. By all means I hope they throw it short a lot. Our DBs are big, and our LBs hit like a ton of bricks. Dealing out violence on their WRs for short yardage gains is ideal. The recievers will start hearing footsteps at their backs, and the hits will start adding up. The ball will pop out. Only a matter of time. Not to mention the D-line can get their hands up into the throwing lanes. Fox was right when he said a lot can go wrong with a pass. Now what we can't have is short passes that yeild a lot of yards after the catch. We typically don't allow that, and that's why we have the best defense in the NFL. Even if they march down the field that way, our defense is tight as a frogs a$$hole in the redzone. Go ahead Brady. Keep throwing. Nice and short.

 

What I don't what is for them to run the ball on us. If we can stuff that with 7 in the box, then it's on.

 

If you watch what we're doing on defense, keep an eye on how much our players shift around while the QB is making his pre-snap read. This shifting makes it impossble for the opposing QB to know for certain where pressure might be coming from, or who might be dropping into coverage. In the past, our own defenders would be confused with the shifting and pre-snap call changes and make mistakes. Not anymore. Luke makes the changes, and everyone knows excatly where they need to be, and they believe the play is going to work. All defenders are on the same page now, and opposing QBs are the ones who are confused. Brady is no exception.

 

Without Wilfork we should be able to run the ball well and chew up the clock. Not good for NE. Running allows for play-action, and our QB has a cannon for an arm. Now the question is which Cam will show up. If Cam is hot, then this team puts anyone away. If he's throwing high and being wierd with throw aways that don't even come close to going out of bounds, then we're in trouble. Cam is the x-factor. We'll need way more than 10 points to beat NE.
