Absolutely disgusted.

I don't mind the smoke. I smoked for 20 years. (Quit almost 4 years. Yay me.) the smell doesn't bother me, but even as a smoker I understand why they banned it indoors. Smokers ash and drop the butts wherever. Wherever there is a designated smoking area it is always without fail, a nasty dump.

The first game I went to was the SF game in Sept of 1996. Being just 20 at the time and in the thick of our going to outdoor music festivals phase we sat in our seats, took off our shirts, and lit up. The security guard was laughing as he told us we broke their two biggest rules. This was second game ever played there. They were a bit more flexible. Now all you see everywhere you look is the number for texting fan issues.

That was my first and only live game.  I still remeber beating that Niner butt.  It was that game that told me we had a chance to do something special that season.  I live out of state now, so its tough to make it to a game.

I'm a smoker and it was tough after several beverages at the game but I used a patch and made it through the game. I did see people lighting up on the ramps from time to time and agree a smoking section would be help stop that. I was recently at an airport and they had a pay to smoke room, it was worth the $5 because it was well ventilated and had decent furniture ( as opposed to the smoking aquariums in ATL airport).

Maybe a Reynolds sponsored smoking area? but really, with E cigs and patches, most of us can make through a game....and it helps if we win.

new slogan: Panthers win and save lives.

Sounds like the situation was handled in the wrong way. When someone is found smoking within BoA, they are asked to present their ticket and then are told how BoA is a non-smoking facility. SW is then written on your ticket, as a warning. If you are then found smoking yet again and they see your ticket has SW written on it then they can eject you.

Edit: they allow: e-cigs, vapors and chewing tobacco in the stadium.

It's political correctness and nannying run amuck. There is no reason not to have a smoking section. It's an outdoor, open air stadium. I don't smoke but its silly to not find a way to accommodate smokers.

i know man it's getting so a guy can't do whatever he wants anymore because someone somewhere has to try to control you into not being free to do whatever he wants regardless of who it affects anymore. it makes me soooo madddd

There were smoking sections in BOA until a couple years ago. And when those smoking sections were open the organization was very upfront and made frequent announcements that at some future date there would no longer be smoking allowed inside the gates of the stadium, so it's not like this was a big secret.

I worked for one of the largest retailers in the country after I retired from the Navy and still smoked. They announced a full year ahead of time that employees would no longer be allowed to smoke on company property when the employee was on the clock. This seemingly simple act saved the employees and the company a lot of money on the group health insurance rates.

That being said- the best people watching experience can be had outside the gates in the hour or so leading up to the game when you can sit and watch all the reactions of people getting turned away at the gates for purses, bags and the like that are now illegal in the eyes of the NFL.

New business alert: a flatbed truck outfitted with small, bus/train station type lockers that people could rent from you to store their purses, bags and other stadium-outlawed items. "$15 for the game, we'll hold your personal property in a personal locker and you have the key."
