Change in Newton from Arizona to now

The Arizona game was probably the worst performance we've seen from the Panthers in quite a while. It was the only game in recent years that I turned the tv off and stopped watching (I regret it now). My question though, how has the offense changed since that game? And could a repeat of our offensive performance be repeated this year? Im thinking the biggest change is our oline, as shocking as that sounds, but I haven't looked it up statistically.

To  me the biggest difference is that the offense is playing mistake free football.  There were several drive killing, take points off the boards, drops in that game.  Cam started out on fire but then started to press when things started to go south.  He then started pressing and turnovers were the result.  There has been the occasional drop or int since, but the team has not allowed a bad play here and there to snowball into a collapse like they did in Arizona.

Biggest thing about Arizona game was after the game. Cam got zilch protection hit all day, and the Panthers lost a game they should have won. A year ago Cam would have talked about "suggestion boxes" and done everything but lead. This year after Arizona he talked about taking responsibility for the loss; how he could make quicker reads, and better decisions to stop sacks. That's the kind of thing a team rallies around. The O-line and everyone on offense wants to play better for "That Guy".

I don't see much of a change. It was one bad game. There's still way too many drops and the pass protection is inconsistent, at best. The Panthers are a very good team. but the OL and WR issues will have to be addressed in the draft/offseason before Cam and this offense will ever reach it's full potential. I'm not trying to say that they can't go deep into the playoffs or possibly even win the Super Bowl with the current offense.

But when Cam has a solid line and dependable receivers, the Panthers offense will be every bit as scary as their defense. A more consistent running game wouldn't hurt either.

Went to a lot more quick, short passes than before.

I think this adjustment has been huge for us.  By next year teams will gameplan to take that away and Cam will start throwing over the top again.

You take what the defense gives you unless you're playing our defense.  We ain't givin nutin!

It's not really Cam handling it better, it's Shula. During those first games he was calling slooooow developing routes and not adjusting to the pressure.

Well he is using the same playbook Chud had.  This is probably the reason the calls take so long to get in.  Chud filled the playbook with so many long developing routes it takes a good 20 seconds to find a play with some short routes built in lol.

I think it is partly Cam, though I think it is as much/more the offense and playcalling embracing a better short passing game.
