rivera: "This was a very humbling experience ... Maybe we got a little full of ourselves."

Byron Bell was not focused this game I believe the moment consumed him.  Cam did what coaches told him to do, and was off on a few throws.  The defense played too soft in the safety area...like they played not to get beat deep, but Drew was making 3-5 step quick drops and just throwing it into a window.  We changed how we played them from last year and the saints took advantage.  When last year our safeties made some plays on the ball and even an INT or two...this year we played too far off because Drew was dinking and dunking not going for the long bomb every play. Ron learns fast and he knows what must be changed he is no fool he knows what needs to be adjusted....rather get that loss out of the way before playoff time comes...so the players know every game wont be easy. #keepPounding

On the flip side of this I hope this was a humbling experience for some fans too.  So many people around here have been acting like we are the best team in the NFL and if all the experts don't pick us we are being disrespected.

I hate Darin Gnant but he said it best a couple of weeks ago, this team has such a thin margin of error.  We can't go out there and play like New England and just win it in the last 30 secs.  We have to play sound, physical mistake free football.

Our secondary is average, the right side of the line is below average, and the receiving core is average.  In a few years we can fix those issues which is part of the plan but for right now we have to find a way to mask our weaknesses.  Right now its through running the ball, short high percentage passes, time consuming drives, and getting after the quarterback.  We didn't do any of that last night.

Hopefully our fan base gets some perspective and begins to understand that we have a great team here in charlotte, ONE THAT WE SHOULD CHEER ON AT ALL TIMES, but they aren't perfect and maybe we shouldn't act that way, or expect it.

You mean full of ourselves like rushing Brees with 4 and daring him to beat us with his arm on his field in his dome?

I'm glad Rivera said "WE" because the coaching staff may have needed a reality check as much as the players.

i think it was more about not overcompensating for a strength by drawing resources from a weakness to blitz.

new orleans ate us with the short and middle of the field passes. would've been even worse if we had blitzed. secondary simply has to step up and play better than they did. playing on grass won't hurt either.

They hurt us because Brees had too much time and a clean pocket. When we started sending blitzes in the 3rd quarter things changed dramatically, but it was too late.

Yea they thought they were going to beat Brees like they beat Brady. They were wrong.

most of what new orleans ran didn't need a lot of time, at least not in 2nd quarter when they rattled off 21. they slowed it down after the half and the pass rush got there-brees just moves in the pocket as well as anyone who plays the game-that comes to corners staying on their man for the duration of the play and they didn't do that last night. drew had to evade tacklers pretty consistently after the half and still made plays on the move to wide open guys.
