 Carolina Panthers

Big move: One of the problems the Panthers have had in recent years has been the middle of their defensive line. Last year, they earned a collective minus-42.6 grade from this area, but the additions of Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short have seen that switch to a plus-21.7 grade. Lotulelei, who has the best run-stop percentage of all defensive tackles, has been particularly impressive.

Under-the-radar pickup: Known as one of the biggest second-round reaches in draft history when he was selected by the Raiders, Mike Mitchell has shed that label with an incredibly solid year at safety. Only Antrel Rolle has more picks from the safety spot, and Mitchell has proved to be an upgrade over constantly disappointing Charles Godfrey.

Elsewhere: Picking up a couple of undrafted free agents and turning them into contributors is always a good move, as the Panthers have done with Robert Lester and right cornerback Melvin White. Lester has played second fiddle to Quintin Mikell in the team's base package, and that owes a lot to how well the veteran has played.

Panthers in the top 5 best.

Would it be safe to say that more improvements were made to this team this past offseason than the previous two rebuilding years combined?

Considering the last two rebuilding offseasons included Cam Newton and then Luke I don't think that is safe to say.

It has been more pieces coming together and getting Star that has been biggest difference this season.

I will say this for Gettleman. He really had what looks like a great draft and did very well in the UDFA department as well.

The fact that we play 6 rookies on defense is huge. He has been great so far.

This offseason will be one of our busiest in recent years. One year contracts expiring, Greg Hardy is probably gone, decisions to make at LT, decisions to make at WR and RB. LG and RG. Kalil and Silatolu might be the only offensive linemen starting for us next year that started for us this year unless the really like Chandler and Bell.

    • Another thread where the Huddle melts down over a Bryce comment.  "Conversations" and "Bryce Young has been signed to a new long-term contract" are still far away from being the gospel.  For a fanbase that has watched two top-3 drafted QBs come here, and us move on, only to see them elevate their play elsewhere, I find it comical. Bryce is flawed but this org is damned if you do and damned if you don't with BY9.  Why would our GM and HC say anything other than supportive about their QB1. Yes, he's extended, but I truly do not think if he goes out and has a repeat of the previous seasons, that he is here beyond 2027. They're giving him every opportunity and surrounding him with a ridiculous amount of assets on both sides of the ball. If he continues to pitch 110 yd/ game and cough up the ball while everyone else is busting their ass, no way Dan keeps him beyond the extension.
    • Ooof, I was not a Proctor fan. I agree w/ a lot of smarter folks than me that he's more of a guard and think his weight fluctuation is going to be something to navigate. I liked Lomu a lot, but figured there would be more talented guys there at 19. I also wasn't big on bringing in a TE via the draft. If it's not a vet (Njoku) or a trade for Mayer or Kmet, I'd just as soon see what the youngsters have. No need cluttering the room with more of the same.
    • Sam Darnold & Bryce Young are two very different Qbs ..just saying the last 25 years approximately 2/3 of ALL  first round Qb's  in the NFL were or are bust.so for everyone who makes it like a Sam Darnold you have two that don't make it or are a bust
