The most overrated argument on this forum, cutting d will and betting our chips on barner is not a good ideal and cutting j stew and take that cap hit not a good ideal either. I never get this argument........our weakness lies in our OT,Cb, then Wr not in our rb's, does cutting either really make a significant difference for this team???

They can get out of both deals with little to no damage with a June 1st cut. The impact year would be 2015, but the salary cap should be in the 132-133 range for that season. Stew would cost the team 4.5 million in 2015 and that's it.

Team would eat the balance on this year of 6 million and then eat 12 million in 2015. Costing the team roughly 4.5-5 million to get out from under his contract. Dwill would save the team money in 2015 and counteract that hit a bit. So if you add both deals together the team would get a hit of around 1-2 million on 2015's cap by designating them as June 1st cuts.

Heading into this season.....Beason's absurd contract made him just as "safe" as Double Trouble.

Can't assume any player with a bad deal that cost TONS with minimal production is "safe"......under a GM brought in to clean them up. Hurney magic'ing them isn't why Gettlemen is here

It's accelerated signing bonus. But it may be worth a roster spot for a RB that plays more than 3 games a year

Not entirely. His salaries through next year and part of 2015 were fully guaranteed. 7,5 million or so in addition to signing bonus prorations.

His contract had 23 million guaranteed counting his 9 million signing bonus and 5.5 Million in guaranteed Salary. Add in another 2.5 million for his restructure and another 4.785 million option bonus in 2014. All told he's got around 30 million in guaranteed money or bonuses the he'll get. Add in another 6 million in LTBE bonuses for yards that he might get if Dwill is cut and he takes off again.   It's a really horrible deal, maybe one of the worst in NFL history.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
