Did John Fox take a swipe at the Panthers?

Darin Gantt believes he did.

Of course, Fox also got a subtle dig at his previous employer when asked if he’s a better coach now, or whether he just has better players than when he coached the Panthers in this game 10 years ago.

“I had good players in Carolina. I think that was the only Super Bowl they’ve ever been to,” he said. “It was a great team, great locker room, as you’d expect. I think all these are different. This time of year from now, I’ll have a completely different team. It’s just the way of the National Football League. Coaches change teams. Players change teams.

“I’m just really soaking this one in. It’s a great bunch. I’m very proud of this bunch, just like I was with the Carolina team. So I’ve enjoyed, really, all my football teams and I think you get better. I think the more experience, or the more you do it, the better you get. You should, whether it’s your job or my job.”

Fox obviously takes pride in being the only Panthers coach to get to the Super Bowl (though there have only been four of them, and two of the others have been to the playoffs). But the way his career there ended, with a messy lame-duck contract situation leading to his departure, guarantees that he’ll always enjoy working little tweaks like that into his press conferences.

This is nothing more than Gantt continuing his now 4 year long tantrum that we cut his bestie 4eva.

Dude has pouted about everything we've done since a lot of his ole palaroonies rightfully got the axe. Believe he referred to us as winning "our Super Bowl" about four different times this year.

Guy is a chump

I'm not really sensing any sort of jab at the Panthers. I'm usually pretty good at picking up on snarky comments from people. Those comments Jon Beason made a week or two after he was traded to the Giants about playing on national TV was absolutely a jab at the Panthers - these from Fox...eh not so much.

I don't think John Fox is doing anything wrong.  I think he just trying to be professional.  He lives in Charlotte, and up until this point he's the best coach we've ever had.   I don't blame him however for not living in the past when his team is in the Superbowl.  We've gotten lucky that Rivera has worked out, but JR canned the wrong guy....should have been Hurney all along.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
