Worst draft picks since 2000 for every team

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

...according to a guy I've never heard of (link)

Here's the list by division (comments added)

AFC EAST

Buffalo Bills - LB Aaron Maybin, 2009

Miami Dolphins - QB John Beck, 2007

New England Patriots - CB Terrence Wheatley, 2008 (Pats have generally drafted badly since Pioli left)

New York Jets - DE Vernon Gholston, 2008 (I gotta go with Marc Sanchez here)

AFC NORTH

Baltimore Ravens - LB Sergio Kindle, 2010

Cincinnati Bengals - RB Kenny Irons, 2007

Cleveland Browns – QB Brady Quinn. 2007 (there's definitely competition for this spot)

Pittsburgh Steelers – WR Limas Sweed, 2008

AFC SOUTH

Houston Texans - QB David Carr, 2002 (first ever pick, biggest bust; ouch)

Indianapolis Colts - OT Ben Ijalana, 2007

Jacksonville Jaguars - QB Blaine Gabbert, 2011 (this oughtta get some chuckles)

Tennessee Titans - RB Chris Henry, 2007 (not that one, the one you're thinking of was a receiver with the Bengals)

AFC WEST

Denver Broncos - DE Paul Toviessi, 2001

Kansas City Chiefs - WR Sylvester Morris, 2000

Oakland Raiders - QB JaMarcus Russell, 2007 (there's a shock)

San Diego Chargers - WR Craig 'Buster' Davis, 2007 (unfortunate nickname; FYI Leaf was drafted in 1998)

NFC EAST

Dallas Cowboys - OT Jacob Rogers, 2004 (could argue for Quincy Carter here)

New York Giants - WR Sinorice Moss, 2006

Philadelphia Eagles - DE Jerome McDougle, 2003

Washington Redskins - QB Patrick Ramsey, 2002 (someone will reference RG3 being next)

NFC NORTH

Chicago Bears - DE Dan Bazuin, 2007

Detroit Lions - Charles Rogers, 2003 (one of three-in-a-row first round receivers courtesy of Matt Millen)

Green Bay Packers - DT Justin Harrell, 2007

Minnesota Vikings - DE Michael Boireau, 2000

NFC SOUTH

Atlanta Falcons - DE Jamaal Anderson, 2007

Carolina Panthers - CB Rashard Anderson, 2000 (not Jimmy Clausen?)

New Orleans Saints - DT Johnathan Sullivan, 2003

Tampa Bay Buccaneers - WR Dexter Jackson, 2008 (zero receptions for his pro career; seriously, look it up)

NFC WEST

Arizona Cardinals - DE Wendell Bryant, 2002 (people thought he'd be a beast)

Saint Louis Rams - DE Adam Carriker, 2007

San Francisco 49ers - WR Rashaun Woods, 2004

Seattle Seahawks - LB Aaron Curry, 2009

So where is he wrong?  Where is he right?  Where is he majorly wrong or right?

Clausen would have probably been no better than Average, but he walked into a god awful situation. He never had a chance. It would have taken a special player to come out of that and Jimmy wasn't special. Could have been average tho, 2 or three year starter and then career back up.

How is Clausen worse thn Everett? JC was just a random mid-second round pick. We traded part of our future for Brown.

Rumor has it hurney tried to trade up to get pickles.

He did.

Teams were trying to get next year's first out of him...again.  Had he caved on that one, no Cam Newton

(thank God Marty held his ground for once)

Rumor and speculation.  Neither Hurney nor JR has ever said this happened.  One of many examples of a rumor getting repeated so much around here it becomes accepted as true.

    • Mr. 0-2 every year to start the season in his career. Last year was the first year he ever played a week 3 game.
    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
