Anybody besides me nervous about offensive tackle?

Gross said Bell could play LT

Rivera said Bell could play LT

Gettleman said Bell could play LT

Kalil said Bell could play LT

Huddle says bell can't play LT

I am in the wait and see category myself.   I am sure there will be some OL drafted and then it's a best man up type of mentality.

Lol anybody can play LT. Playing it and being good is a different thing.

The whole Bell issue is probably the most contentious issue here on the board.  Everyone's on pins and needles about who'se going to replace Bell.

While you have to acknowledge that teammates are going to support each other, we hope that some more competition gets brought in because we want to keep Cam standing so he can stay healthy, make plays, and look good in a clean uniform =P  Bell is a great story, and I hope he does live up to it.  I'm also all for bringing in some competition for msot of the OL.  As we've seen, depth there is never wasted!

Anyone can play any position. The question is will be be good.

Bell sucks and unfortunately is our only T on the roster with any experience. What you expect Gross and the coaches to say?

How do you know?  Because he was bad at RT that makes him automatically unequivocally without any doubt whatsoever bad at LT?  Wouldn't that be the same as saying if a guy was bad at WLB then he is going to be horrible at MLB?  We don't know.  Some of us suspect he will not be good, but to automatically say Bell sucks at LT is chicken little ish at this point.  You don't know, I don't know, however the people who should know these things seem to think he can play.  Quite a few players have been vocal about us needing WR help.  But it doesn't seem to be the same uproar about LT.

I am not saying Bell is good.  I am saying that we should wait and see.  With our DL it will be apparent pretty early we need to look for a replacement.  There are always cuts etc..that happen in training camp and we can use that maybe not to find an all pro LT but a serviceable one if the need becomes prevalent.

I want an OT too. But I think the biggest problem with the o-line is the guard play. I don't have statistics to show you. I just watch the games. I look at stats but to me never will never supplant watching the games. Our guards just look weak physically, no power, no nastiness, nothing. As soon as the ball gets snapped they are pushed back. I really am rooting for Edmund Kugbila and Amini to not miss any time, whether OTA, Training Camp, preseason, regular season, etc. Most of cam's escapes where outside because someone was getting blown off the line. If they can get that fixed I believe the panthers will have consecutive winning seasons for a long time. When looking at future schedules, most of the time when I mark down a loss it has to do with the interior line not being able to block or run the football. I never count our RBs to play well because of the o-line and just hope that Cam makes miracle plays that will turn the tide of the game. I want to get that mentality out of my head.

    • I must apologize, my sarcasm at times doesnt translate well in text form lol. At this point I would welcome us signing him, Trey Lance, trading for Jameis Winston, asking about Deshaun Watson and playing phone tag with Tom Brady before I ever fully entertain a season of Bryce Young being the defacto Starting Quarterback of the Panthers.

    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
