List of top players not drafted

I found this to be interesting because it reveals how little we actually know about the NFL talent evaluation process.   For example, how many of you (me too) were screaming for James Hurst in the fourth round?  Fifth round?  Sixth round?  I was--all three rounds.  I would have been happy to hear, "The Carolina Panthers select James Hurst, Tackle, North Carolina" in the third round.

Yep.  That's why I do find it funny when all the armchair GMs go crazy about value, BPA, needs, ects around here.

Sure it's fun to talk about, and attempt to rationalize what GMs and stuff do.  But it's their job, and they want to stay employed so naturally, they are going to do things differently, and probably better than us.

I was also hoping for Hurst.   Seemed like a good risk if he could come back from his injury.

Why aren't these valued players being drafted?

Coaches and GMs value other players over them?

Oh no! Say it ain't so!!!!!

I bet we can assemble a team with all these guys that'll win the Superbowl!!!!

No? Well damnit all to hell!!!!!!!

I know a few of the hyped guys that were constantly being mocked by "professional media" and fans in 3-6 round (Tiny Richardson, James Hurst, Brandon Coleman etc..) were not drafted at all.  The hypocritical part of it is that the same media that mocked these guys to us are trashing our draft because we failed to take advantage of need.  I bet had we drafted Hurst in the 4th and Coleman in the 5th there would be praise and A's all around.  This despite the fact that the two guys we pick up would not have even been on any of the 31 teams boards.

Most of the people whining on here right now do so because they judge the quality of our draft by whether or not we picked somebody they've heard of or watched on YouTube.

You've got some who talk about their research as if reading what media guys and draftniks had to say was equivalent to knowing what professional scouts and personnel men think.  It isn't.  The actual draft shows us that on an annual basis.

Mind you, it's not to say that the media guys never have good opinions, they often do.  People should understand that those guys aren't professional scouts.  They don't work for NFL teams so their info is always going to be at least somewhat limited.

Hurst is hurt, dude. Simple as that. Ozzie Newsome picked him up just as soon as he could.  Hurt players go undrafted every year. Most times GMs just don't want to wait while they are shopping like kids in a candy store, plus they gigure that they can do what Newsome did.  You can get burned investing in a hurt player if they take a longer time to heal than you had planned (I'm thinking this what happened to the 9ers and Marcus lattimore). Hurst has a good prognosis however, and I'll bet that in the long term Ozzie got a steal (as Hurst is a smart guy who had a round 2-3 grade even before he got hurt).

But good hurt players get drafted and many times highly. Guys with major injuries who could potentially never rehab like Lattimore get drafted in the 4th.  Hurst's injury is as minor as it gets. It's like 4 weeks in a walking cast. I had that injury and was back Snowboarding in 5 weeks.

Lol, he broke his leg dude. It's not "as minor as it gets". Let's not go overboard here.

He broke his fibula. I broke my fibula and hike 3 miles on it back to the car. It's a non weight carrying bone. TO broke his in December and played in the Super Bowl. Broken but not displaced fibulas heal quickly and are nothing like a sprain.

    • I believe Lloyd will elevate not just the whole unit, but also whoever his running mate is. Wallace is still very young, I think he's only 23 with two years of exp now. Cherelus can handle starting, he's just fighting with staying healthy. Kuwatch I think is going to be a contender after a couple week of understanding the system.  I mean Lee will be against..... what nearly 10 NFL-level WRs, he's going to get work and its up to him if he can hang.  I think its fair to expect 12th +/- 3 or 4 spots.  You know this, it boils down to how healthy everyone stays.....cause if dbrown, horn, Lloyd, Michael Jackson, or tervon miss extended time.....no way 10th can be reached. IF all the names above remain haethly, I do think 10th should be the goal. They are a young unit and added talent to a 16th ranked unit. Its time to march forward!!
    • Varying degrees all around but it starts at the top. That is where the buck stops. It has been 8 years of stupid, long before Morgan came back. Or Tillis was hired. Made it to the top of stupid mountain in 2023. Stayed in stupid limbo for a while, now we are prepping to scale the next mountain. In this case, I like those guys’ roster building better than what we have had so I am okay with them as our current pawns in the game of Bryce.
    • Don't let me gas him up too much, but I hear this and that...... I seen a wide body man with a quick burst, that's able to shed blocks and if extends his long arms its over. He tore up the OL in the senior, you seen about 10 plays and the dog walking OLman. There's other plays of him doing the same, just have to deal with fetus talking over the plays. Plus there's this-  https://x.com/PFF_College/status/2018385471068332410?lang=en     I hope he's ready, cause Id like to see him starting and doing his thang with dbrown, nic, and Phillips.
