As I sit and ponder the merits of Nate Chandler

The biggest reason that guys who are tight ends or defensive linemen can develop into decent offensive linemen is their footwork which you assume as a tight end for example will be pretty good.  If they have quick feet they can use that to their advantage against speed rushers for example.  Plus  if he has experience as a defensive linemen then he knows how they think and react which would be an advantage.

What is the hardest part? The mental shift from attacking to being attacked.  From being the aggressor and attacking to absorbing the attack and defending the quarterback by being controlled and disciplined.in the pass game.  Offensive linemen like run blocking because they can go from being passive and absorbing contact to being aggressive and knocking someone down.

Then again I never played linemen so I could be wrong.

  • 2 weeks later...

Digging up this thread from a week ago to continue the discussion of the oline.

with all things pointing to Silatolu and Turner making it happen at the guard position and with all the possibilities at OT.......

Let me throw one more option into the mix.........Kugblia was originally a RT in college.

what say you about the possibility of them giving him a shot at OT?

It would work into the versatility model that our staff loves and his measurables are not bad at all for a OT in this league-

good arm length and hand size with a good 40 time......just might be able to make it work.

Guys ... there are tons of players with good footwork, speed, etc. That doesnt make them a good LT.

Lets be realistic and hope / pray that this huge gamble actually works and everyone proclaims DG a genius. Personally, I would prefer an LT that actually played the position at a high level AND our discussion would be competition at RT where Bell was average at best last year.

I would like to see Kugbila offer competition at OG first.

Bell will probably be our RT. While all the focus has been on starting OTs (and rightfully so), our depth is even worse. We may be calling Matt Willig from retirement and his acting career.

I could see Nate starting @ RT this year and then moving to LT. I could also see Williams starting over Bell at RT.

The speculative offseason... please end
