Panthers Training Camp - Final Thoughts

Love the story, but I don't think the Panthers have the offense to support MVP/ROY players. While KB has the potential to be very good, the ball-control offense isn't set up to give him THAT many looks. Same with Cam getting league MVP. The kind of QB's that win MVP are on pass-happy offenses with way more money and talent wrapped up in their O-Lines. If that were the case, you'd be making a case for our tackles being the best in the league, not just good enough to start. Just my humble opinion. Not trying to hate. If the defense continues to dominate, the run game is successful, the receivers can catch what comes to them, and (most of all) the team stays healthy, the Panthers could be REALLY good this year, as a team. The Saints and Bucs got their superbowl rings before us. I just hope that we can be the first to win the division twice in a row.

With that being said, Your coverage knows no equal. Keep up the great work.

Didn't Steve Smith win the "triple-crown" when we had run first offense?

I agree with you that our offense might not help KB load up on a lot of receiving yards but I do think there is a good chance for him to have a decent TD total.  Unfortunately though, I could see Cooks having a really good year for the saints.

Now that camp is over I wanted to take a few moments to reflect on the past few weeks with a just a few of my thoughts.

Byron Bell

Byron Bell has done pretty well so far in camp and preseason. He gets more negativity than he deserves. Byron has gone up against guys like Greg Hardy, Charles Johnson, and Frank Alexander and has held his own. I dare say he won't see a more difficult task all season long.

Some fans point to a specific play in the preseason game where at first glance it appears Byron is badly beaten. The problem is the play called for slide protection, in which case Amini Silotolu was actually the player responsible for the bad read. The point is, it is easy for us as armchair quarterbacks to pass judgment on players when sometimes we should just trust the coaches.

I don't feel Byron is headed for the pro bowl, but I do feel he is good enough to be a starting tackle in this league.

This coupled with the fact that Rivera named Alexander and Hardy Camp MVP's gives me hope.  If those guys are the MVPs and Bell/Chandler are holding there own then there is reason for optimism.

    • I think where they would be picked if redrafted before both classes have played enough football to really tell.  Baker literally looked like a washout with us after Cleveland gave up on him, then turned world beater with the Rams, got a prove it deal with the Bucs and has looked awesome ever since. Asking where Ward would’ve went had he went in ‘24 is just stupid.  I’m no GM, but I wouldn’t have taken Williams #1 either.  I would’ve taken Joe Milton way higher than he went.  I think Shadeur should’ve been a first round pick this year.  Point being, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one.  It’s my opinion that Ward has that “something special.”  I get that feeling that he’ll be an even better pro than he was a collegiate QB because of whatever that quality is.  I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people, especially being such an under appreciated first overall pick.
    • Where do we get our T-shirts and hats? Pretty sure this is the first championship ever in professional basketball or football in Charlotte!
    • Nice turnaround for Kon.  I’m still a little worried about his ability to create for himself and others, but it was SL.  Come regular season, he will playing a much different role and shots will be there for him.  He showed some reason for hope - and not just him, but the whole squad.  I suppose for the first time ever, we have drafted and acquired enough young talent that we actually not only competed for once, but won the whole thing in summer league.     Kon, Simpson, and Sims made all the difference.  Almost every year prior I felt we always struggled because we usually didn’t have a floor general/real PG to get us into offense.  This was such a breath of fresh air.  And look at us!  We finally are champions!😂
