mccoy on newton - "any shot i can get on him, i'm going to take"

"Cam Newton is Cam Newton," Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said. "He's a two-time Pro Bowler, Rookie of the Year and all that jazz. We're still facing the division champs. Until somebody takes that from them, that's who they are. That team runs as he runs. We're preparing for Cam Newton. We don't care about the rib or the back or whatever it is. We're just preparing for him as if he's 100 percent."

Newton is expected to play with padding covering the rib and the Bucs aren't planning to go easy on him.

"Any shot I can get on him, I'm going to take," McCoy said. "But that's any quarterback, any running back. You get a hit on them and after a while they're going to get tired of getting hit."

I would expect that from an opposing defense.  They may not run their mouth to the media, but do you think Luke or TD say to themselves, "I'm gonna take it easy on (insert player name here) today."  Making an offensive player think about getting hit is a win for the defense.  The OL and RB's need to protect the QB in passing siturations and Cam's gotta slide this week.

    • That’s not true at all. We’ve made some bad decisions, yes, but overall we absolutely are not doing what you stated since Dan took over. I agree with you with Fitt tho.   Last year we heavily invested in OL and this year in DL. A mix of vet proven and young potential. Over those 2 years have also slowly built up the WR room. Those are long term foundational type moves. Assume the DL pans out as well as the OL did, you now start adding tier 2 pieces such as LB, S, and TE.
    • True, but on the flip side we didn’t know if TMac would be there at 8. You gotta roll with guesses at some point and then adapt as things change. Let’s see what Morgan does
    • I don't think he did it to spite Bryce. Seems like Bryce is a truly decent guy that virtually everyone likes. I do think Frank likely preferred Stroud and was either was led to believe or deluded himself into thinking that he would have a lot more say in the direction we went at QB in the draft. Once we decided on Bryce knowing Bryce didn't fit his system and preferences in a QB it really seemed like the wind went out of Frank's sails and he basically started mailing it in and just waited to get fired and paid out. Maybe I'm misreading the whole situation but that's certainly the way it looked to me from the outside looking in.
