In 2003, the Panthers had the best group of olinemen we've ever had. The whole team all around was solid. We won 5 in a row. We knew that was just a hiccup. We had more hope.

This year, the Panthers have the WORST group of olinemen probably in franchise history. Shula is one of the least creative and most inconsistent OCs in the league. We almost let Tampa come back. We just got killed by a poor Steelers team. Hope is dwindling.

The Steelers going back to last year have won 8 of the their last 11 games and haven't had a sub .500 season in a decade.

They may not be as good as years past, but they are also not the type of team that you can get away with multiple huge mistakes and expect to not get blown out

I like the thinking, but you can make analogies a million different ways. You can also do:

In 2008 the Panthers were rolling and looking for homefield advantage throughout for the first time. Then they played an SNF game against the Giants and had a crushing loss that was followed up in a few weeks by the Arizona playoff game.

January 2014. The Panthers are the hottest team in the league, going 11-1 down the stretch in route to a division title and home field in the first round. Their opponent is the 49ers who they had beaten earlier in the season on the road. The Panthers had their close call (week 17 against ATL) and wouldn't take this game lightly. They were also, despite the record, given no respect and surely would use that to their advantage like they did all season.

And then that game happened...

You guys are a really, really good football team. Granted, you aren't all that great in the trenches on offense...and your trenches on the defense has taken a hit as well. But you guys are fortunate enough to be rooting for a team that is very good right now. That said, I don't get all the doom and gloom. You guys will be in the playoffs with a shot at the show. You just will be. Honestly, the only thing in question is your seed.

Shake it off. Enjoy it while it lasts. Because, at some point, your team is going to suck again. Until then, this is will be a good year with a couple valleys. Don't let the valleys define this poo for you.

It is pretty bad when other team's fans are telling us to be better homers and have more faith. :D

    • More praise of Renfrow from Tim Weaver (formerly of USA Today's Panthers Wire, now SI.com), and also what I told some of you, my Huddle friends, from the start: keep it all in perspective, and don't conveniently---and perhaps unfairly, discount and label Renfrow as a JAG when it was a very debilitating illness affecting his play.    "It's understandable to be skeptical about Renfrow's abilities at this late point in his career. After all, he missed all of last season due to a bout of ulcerative colitis that also took a serious toll on his production in 2022 and 2023."   When Renfrow is healthy, he's an above average guy. Being 29 may hurt or help his chances depending upon perspective, but 29 for receivers generally means that there's still (sometimes plenty) gas in the tank. Renfrow also obviously has plenty of motivation and has come with his game face.   "Then agan, seeing is believing and by all accounts Renfrow has been very impressive since joining the Panthers a few months ago... Where Renfrow will fit in Carolina's new-look receiver corps remains to be seen, but at this rate it's going to be hard to exclude him from the initial 53-man roster." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/hunter-renfrow-sick-route-panthers-training-camp Read the room, ladies and gentlemen. And don't get it twisted; Renfrow isn't the most talented receiver on the team, but we have seen his ceiling, when healthy, in a Raiders offense that wasn't necessary replete with talent. Consider what he can do, especially in the slot, in a Panthers offense primed with young talent (no pun intended). From sick to "sick routes," eh?
    • That is literally what I am talking about. Those were 53 man cuts. Not at the beginning of camp.  I would say the odds of Barno being back are extremely thin.
