Shula lead Panthers now 0-6 when opposing team scores more than 20 points

8 minutes to go in the 3rd, down 3 scores, your top two RBs are standing on the sidelines injured. Even when our RBs were healthy we still couldn't run the ball effectively. So what does Shula do... run straight up the middle of course! Result is a half yard gain.

Well damn, that was a completely wasted play, and the game clock is ticking down and we need to put up some points in a hurry. What to do next... oh I know, let's run it straight up the middle again! More time wasted netting only a 1-2 yard gain, putting all the pressure on Cam on 3rd and long.

But Cam being Cam he steps up, throws a laser and converts on 3rd down. Shortly afterwards we're in a 3rd and 4 and Shula calls this toss sweep play that has no chance and is a total disaster. We end up kicking a FG. At this point we're almost into the 4th quarter, that drive burned through a huge chunk of time and yet we're still down 3 scores.

It's situations like this that make it blatantly obvious to me that Shula needs to go. He needs a completely suffocating elite defense to win games. If an opposing team even puts up even a medium range of 21-22 points it's an automatic loss.

His whole strategy is to grind it out and win these 10-9 or 17-13 games. As soon as the opponent is able to put up a few scores, the game is all but over. Even being down 3 scores, he still refuses to adjust. Still the same drag-the-game-out horribly predictable and unimaginative playcalling. Still no sense of urgency, plays coming in late, ball not being snapped until under 10 seconds on the play clock.

It's sad when being down 2 scores at halftime means the game is basically already over. And yeah yeah I know Byron Bell rabble rabble rabble.

My god, can we see what Ramsdell can do for this offense?!?  Gettleman, fire Shula and get someone in there that understands personnel.

The second week in a row where I hear the commentators talk about how the opposing OC adjusts his gameplan to mask a weakness (rooked OT in this game).

Our OC?  Square pegs in round holes.

It's getting old and FAST...

His offense becomes hopeless when the defense can't stop.  I feel like we are so entirely built on the DL that the entire team hinges on it's play.  That's not always a good thing especially when we're trying this whole clock killing methodical approach with this makeshift OL.

Even beyond sucking, Shula is just not a fit here IMO.

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
