We Are Missing Something On Defense

If we want to ever come close to being a team like we were last year we need this back. Nobody on our defense has this mentality anymore. They're all just collecting paychecks. Between Mike and Greg last year it rubbed off on others and those guys stepped up and played like this. Who can we bring in with this mentality? I don't even care if they can ball or not we just need this mentality back. Any FA's next year or players in the draft?

Alot of it is that Harper & DeCoud are subtraction by addition..... I didnt think losing Mitchell, Hardy & Munnerlyn wouldve been that big of a deal. But losing  these 3, along with what their replacements bring (or dont) to the table is a huge part of the problem.... Godfrey os horrible. Ive never said that before, but I catch myself cussin at him most Sundays, DeCoud too... Is what it is, I guess....

Its the reason why Hardy needs to stay and Johnson needs to go. The only reason Johnson didnt defect to ATL is because we gave him a ton of money. I agree we need players that are hungry and hard nosed. In a few years with Johnson and double trouble gone we will have that team but not before those awful deals are gone.

No nastiness on this defense. Luke is a good football player, but he's more Tim Duncan than Jordan. We need some nastiness damnit.

You wanna bring basketball into this, we need the 1989/1990 Pistons Bad Boys. Isiah, Laimbeer, Rodman, Dumars, The Microwave, Mahorn, Daly at HC. Those guys were in the bottom half of the league in talent and went to 3 straight finals winning 2 of them all on intensity, passion, chemistry, mentality, attitude and coaching. Thats what we need on our team. It worked last year on defense even though our secondary was possibly worse talent than this year's.  We need it back.

I agree, it really does seem like the defense is just going through the motions (with exception of Luke and TD).  Norman brings some attitude that we are missing but he can't stay on the field long enough for it to rub off.  I really didn't think our secondary would be bad with the help our d-line would give us~.

~75% completion to the last 5 QBs is absolutely unacceptable.  They are bottom 3 in the NFL.  Can't tackle and can't cover.

What the hell is Harper doing for this team if he can't tackle?    A "in the box safety" that can't tackle is worthless.

Godfrey is a nightmare.  It's sad when a 5th round rookie with a high ankle sprain is conclusively better than a 7 year vet.

I'm usually optimistic but I think I've hit the point of no return for this defense.  I think you really hit the nail on end with this one.  We are sorely missing passion and attitude (and secondary talent).

Watching that sent a chill down my spine.

No one has that mentality on this year's defense, save maybe Thomas Davis. One guy isn't enough.

Me too.  TD is a fiery player.  But he brings a different attitude.  Mitchell and Hardy were aggressive.  Our defense was intimidating as hell. Mentally and physically. Our defense was scary.  Nobody wanted to play us because we were gonna hit their ass, no matter what.  We might have played soft coverage schemes but we weren't SOFT.

Now, we miss tackles left and right.  Look scared to play.  Get pushed around.  Have no aggression.  It's fuging depressing.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
