Clinton Portis on WFNZ yesterday....

I would bet a lot of money that we sign him long term after the season. However I also thought we would have worked something out already.

Cam testing free agency would be practically unheard of . QBs just don't do it.

I can see he and his agent asking for some offensive signings/draft picks as a condition of a long term deal.

Technically we have an option for 2016 but it is absurdly expensive.

I think.

I guess I was implying more that we have at least two years (counting 1 franchise tag) to continue to build the offense and then another year (although not a great option for team) before he could truly walk.

Although...if we can't get Cam to agree on a longterm deal and he plays under the tag then the writing is certainly on the wall IMO.

Yeah most likely it wont be because of that.  Cam can make millions more in a bigger city with just endorsements alone.

The whole endorsement thing isn't really reality anymore.  With the internet and how much coverage is on there, it's almost nonexistent.   Kevin Durant didn't have any probably getting 200 some million or whatever from Underarmor playing in OKC.   Cam had endorsements before even playing a snap.  It's not like 25 years ago where the only exposure to a player was a game on TV vs popular teams or 2 minutes on sportscenter.  Times have changed.

Tagging him would be pointless. If it comes to that, just let him leave and get a decent compensatory draft pick in return. Forcing a franchise QB to stay when he doesn't want to is a recipe for an awful season.

Then trade him.

It is far more illogical to let him walk when you could just tag and trade him.  And trust me, teams would be lining up to trade for Cam assuming he finds a team he would agree to a long-term contract with.

My fear going into this season was the team not adding more weapons and or Cam just trying to play for a big pay off (which I can understand) and all because of the market he looks elsewhere.

This is why im torn on the brand thing with players. You do what you can for endorsements.

I could see him going to Miami/Houston/if the Rams move to LA he is as good as gone.

It's not the state of the franchise. It's the state WHERE the franchise is.

Might be true.  But Cam is a media hog/ wh*re.  In NY or LA he would get more money and exposure.

Although some on here act like you can't have a favorite player; Cam is my favorite player. Everyone has a player they talk about to their kids and grandkids, and I felt Cam was going to be that guy. I've been a Panthers fan since I was 11, and will remain one but if we lose Cam, I'll def need a break. I know id be upset with this franchise.

In all a seriousness I would take a break from NFL fandom if the Panthers lost out on Cam.

To think we have done so well considering the youth of the franchise and where our expansion counterpart is. To have what would be an unprecedented loss in free agency that would probably set us back to Jacksonville status would be catastrophic in terms of fan support.

Fans have the ability to justify alot of moves a team makes, but that's not one of them.

    • Seems to me that the Bucs have less fight in them now than they had in week 16. The real test is going to be if the Panthers can sustain focus and discipline throughout. With the Bucs being at home, maybe that gives them a little boost of confidence and energy.  Wouldn’t it be something if for ONCE the Panthers came out and dominated from the opening snap and just took this shook Bucs team to task?  If the Panthers see-saw form follows, we are in line for the W. Hard to say we have momentum but we do have a pretty clear pattern of following a loss with a win.  I’m going to say 24-16 Panthers!!
    • When Parcell’s said Bryce better “walk on water”…..the implied concern wasn’t that the tiny QB could survive being hit.  It was acknowledging he would have to be extremely special to overcome the handicaps he would face at this level.  Which he isn’t and can’t.  which isn’t just being hit.  It’s being able to play in an NFL pocket and make NFL throws from it….and that ultimately is Bryce’s problem.  He doesn’t play well from a NFL pocket and can’t make all the throws as needed.  He can’t see as others can.  Which impacts the throws he does and doesn’t take.  It also impacts him bailing and killing plays and turning them into scrambles/dead plays
    • 9:30 kick off here in Scotland, which is better than the 01:20 early hours of Monday that I feared. Will definitely be watching, but probably wouldn't if it had been 0120 as I need to be up for work at 05:45. Falcons Saints is 6pm on the Sunday so will watch that too if it becomes relevant
