Dave Gettleman's Head Coaches

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Gettleman came in specifically stating he wasn't just going to throw everyone out and replace them with his own people.

And only an idiot would fire a head coach coming off that kind of season with a future looking bright.

Some may say only an idiot would extend a coach who displayed coaching concerns in 2011, 2012, and to open 2013.....all 3 seasons showed some repeative questionable HC decision making.

and we see it again now in 2014.

Some of you should read through this thread.

I like post # 173 in that thread - the Creepster

Sorry guys much as Id like RR to suceed Im not buying in to him yet as a HC. We got some very lucky breaks this year that won us games,  had not a damn thing to do with RR and his coaching decisions.

I still think Dave gets a lot of hype....too much.

Dave is the one who extended Ron too soon. Dave is the one who thought renting a DE was pretty much worth downgrading an OL, secondary, and ST by large margins. Dave is the one who just had one of his draft picks essentially stolen.

First round picks IMO aren't how you judge a GM. Dave gets "meh" from me so far. I still think his vision is exactly what we have watched in NY. A very in consistent product. Yeah, they lucked into some rings. I don't think NY is the model despite the rings.

All valid points. Im not sitting here saying dave will do this, this, and this or that he has been awesome. Im pretty much just saying im excited to see how he will put this team together going forward and what it will look like when hurneys finger prints are gone. Sure im optimistic but its more just curiosity of what kind of different team we are looking at.

And i now think gettleman wasnt trying to piece together this team for a run this year. I think hes got the fututre 100% in mind.

Edited the OP to add a connection I left out...

Quick trivia question: Who was Jim Kelly's backup during the glory years with the Bills?

Hint: He's known for leading two of the biggest comebacks in NFL history.  He was also the very first starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, and he's considered a potential head coaching candidate for next season.

Frank Riech? If I spelled it right.

Frank Reich in the 1992 AFC wildcard led the Buffalo Bills to a 41-38 victory in OT against the Houston Oilers (Tennessee Titans).also, the Bills were behind by 32pts at one point in the game making it the greatest come from behind victory in NFL history.

Gettleman is nothing like Hurney.

Don't know that yet in reality.

Him being hired and told you have to straighten out x, y, and z is a job assignment. Not loving all Hurney guys doesn't mean he won't overly show love to his guys once they get established.

This was his first real offseason. You could easily argue what hurt us most was the front offices decision to "over invest " at one postion (DE) at a clear detriment to the rest of the team. Being against the Hardy tag can be viewed for the same reasons as being against signing 2 guys to featured RB money

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
