2014 Panthers Rookie Grades

My favorites are Norwell and Glanton... Two UDFA's with tremendous upside. We know what Norwell can do, dude is a freaking beast. Reminds me of "The Missing Link" wrestler... Haven't seen much of Glanton, but from what I Saw against the Cons I am very impressed... Klein better watch his back.

These guys did not just make the roster, they START.  The are the reason we went from 3-8-1 to the playoffs.  I challenge anyone to find another NFL roster with 3 rookies starting.   There may be one or two, but that is about it.  We have more than twice that.

I rewatched some things this week and the line play is markedly better. Remember early in the season when Cam would hand the ball off and Johnathan Stewart would break 4 tackles in the backfield to salvage a no gain? That isn't happening anymore.

 

You can see it's 2nd and 1. Tolbert takes the handoff and the offensive line is blocking on the other side of the line of scrimmage. That's like taking candy from a baby and Tolbert loves candy.

 

 

 

Remember early in the season when Cam was getting jumped in the backfield? We all know Norwell makes a great pull on this play but Remmers, Turner, and Kalil clean up the line so he can make his pull. Again, Cam was not touched until the two yard line.

Norwell is not the athlete that Amini Silatolu is but he has something better. Awareness, consistency, and football inteligence. He doesn't blow assignments. He doesn't hesitate. Jeremy points to his mean streak, I point to his dependability.

Early this season Trai Turner had me worried. He was getting beat at the snap and losing 1 on 1s. He looked like a rookie. Somewhere along the line it slowed down for him and he gained confidence. Johnathan Stewart owes Trai some icecream because the big guy is making space for him.

I got Trai Turner highlighted here. The Panthers pull Ryan Kalil, Ed Dickson, and Greg Olsen to spring Stew for 11 yards. None of this happens if Trai doesn't hold up his man.

Only thing I would change is B+ for Philly and B for KB

Benjamin's is way too high. Numbers are meaningless if the catch or TD comes at the wrong time. 50% catch rate with multiple drops in the endzone or on third downs do not contribute to wins - just losses. I would only give him a C+ as a 1st rounder. I would give Brown the A as a UDFA. Guy has been more dangerous and a lot more dependable the Benjamin over the last few games. He and Benwikere are the real stars of this draft.

It was/is an incredible haul in the draft and UDFA class this year.

It was late to show, but managed to offset the questionable  Oline/WR moves, retirements, releases and lack of FA signings.

 

Wouldn't a Playoff win be a nice payoff for this roller coaster we have all survived this year?

These 8 players are solid contributors. Sure they have their Rookie moments but as they turn into savvy veterans our team is going to be solid top to bottom.

Grabage time stats?? How many games were the Giant's or Bucs in?? Are OdB and Evans numbers grabage as well??

I also like to state the fact that there was a "guess KB stats for the season" thread. And none of you had him at 1,000 rec.yards and 9 TD. Now all of a sudden those numbers aren't good enough? ? Really??

The Giants went 6 and fugin 10!!! But no one here mentions OBJ's stats as garbage stats! DB's and DC's dont just clock out their time cards when they think they have the game won. Is it KB's fault that it took RR and the rest of the staff to get their poo together and creating this "garbage stat" argument in the first place? Or would some of you rather KB just have quit in those games we were blown out cause if he did we wouldnt even be talkin about the first rookie in this franchise to hit 1000 recieving yds.

 

 

Should KB be dropping balls? Hell NO! But to belittle his achievement is a tad bit disrespectful. Especially after all the mediocre WRs this franchise has been forced to endure. I am just glad we have one that can even sniff 1000 yd seasons....

Looking at the guys ahead of KB, they were all more highly touted wrs. The thing about KB was that he'd make head scratching plays both ways. It's who he is right now. He was thrown in as the number one wr for us. He still has a lot to learn about nfl football.

I agree with the harsher criticism. But he was put in the worst spot if any of the rookies and he's been better than we could have asked.

Don't compare him to OBJr or Mike Evans or Sammy Watkins. Those guys came out more polished and better prepared the an KB. Where he is though is very good for us.

He needs to improve and I think he will. Or of his ceiling is 70-80 catches, 1000 yards and 9 TDs a year... We lol I think we can all live with that!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if we had this roster/starters back in September and had good luck with injuries etc, I reckon we go 11-5, getting the extra wins against Cincinnati, Seattle, New Orleans and Atlanta
