Panthers - Seahawks Primer

Here are a few tidbits I found interesting concerning the matchup Saturday in Seattle.

Where they are now:

Seahawks are on a 6 game win streak

Panthers are on a 5 game win streak.

Earlier This Year:

In their matchup earlier in the year, both teams had identical offensive efficiencies ( .33%) . Both teams had 9 drives. Both teams had 3 three and outs. Both teams had 2 turnovers. The difference in the game? One team scored a touchdown. The Panthers won the time of possession by two minutes.

Fun Facts:

Jonathan Stewart out performed Marshawn Lynch in the first matchup, and has since being named the starter again in December.

Cam Newton is tied with LeSean McCoy for 4th place in rushing touchdowns since 2011 at 33TDs. Marshawn Lynch is the leader at 48.

Cam Newton ranks 4th all time in the NFL for most combined rush and pass yards in their first 62 games, ahead of Dan Marino.

For the entire 2014 season:

Seattle ranks 6th in first downs per team. Carolina ranks 12th.

Seattle ranks 1st in fewest first downs allowed. Carolina ranks 12th.

Cam Newton ranked 27th on third down passer rating

Russell Wilson ranked 22nd on third down passer rating

The Seahawks are....

8-0 When leading at halftime.

4-4 When trailing at halftime.

0-2 When trailing after three quarters

0-2 vs a 100 yard rusher (important!)

Never has our first few posessions mattered so much.  We need to run over that front 7 early and often

Especially for Cam's sake. His demeanor and play really seem to sway with the breeze. It would be huge for his confidence and our momentum if we could march down and put points on the board that first drive.

Is there a reason we keep ignoring the fact that the last 3 games were in Carolina? Do you just not think that will be a factor or what? Serious question.

Because it's been shown in the NFL that a good defense travels. This defense went into ATL and NO and basically shut down their offenses. That's the reason every analyst is saying the game depends on which Cam shows up because it's a given the defense will ball out.

Exactly, I'm not worried about the defense. I'm worried about the offensive performance and if we couldn't score points against them at home how are we gonna do it on the road in the playoffs?

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
