John Fox and Denver parting ways

Somebody has to want to get rid of him.

It's generally believed that Rivera doesn't.  The question is how Gettleman feels.

Rivera has demonstrated in multiple ways on numerous occasions that he is inherently adverse to change.

If this team is going to improve when it comes to the coaching staff that decision will need to be made above Rivera's pay grade.

I can see them parting ways.  With Manning there, they were always going to have firepower and Elway has spent the money to bring in the veterans they need to with a Super Bowl.  Fox was brought in because of his defensive reputation and his defenses has not lived up to expectations.  It is much different than here where we have been in a rebuilding phase.  Denver is in a "win now" because the window is closing situation.

I think the Window closed at the end of the superbowl loss. At that point his new throwing motion had started to catch up with him, it directly lead to him tearing the quad, but his velocity was going down noticably as each game went along and as the seasons went along.

Take a look at a game from earlier 2013 season to this season. You can see the difference and it even looks like the coaches tweaked the playbook to try and keep him healthy as long as possible.

Playoffs

Playoffs w/ a Super Bowl appearance

Playoffs

Playoffs w/ a win

And your fired.

That resume would keep you employed here for 15 years

That resume would keep you employed 15 years on most teams.

My bet is Fox lands in CHI. Vet QB and good but not great D.

I'd agree.

I find it odd that someone who took many trips to the sb before they could finally win would be so impatient with fox.

On the other hand, elway has always struck me as a horse faced prick

It's apparently another situation like the one in San Fran with Harbaugh and Baalke.

Elway may indeed be a prick, but from what I've read it sounds like Fox is the one who forced his way out of Denver because he wanted more power.

One thing that seems clear in the NFL these days: ego trumps success.

Do people here feel that John Fox did a good job in Denver or do you think he did a bad job as a coach?

I personally believe he did a good job. Sure he didn't win a Super Bowl but he won his division every year and had made a Super Bowl appearance and AFC championship appearance. I know there was a lot of hype for Denver to win the Super Bowl but last year they lost their starting LT and didn't have a good defense (Von Miller was out for most the season) and still went to the Super Bowl. This year Denver had a pretty good defense but I believe Peyton's health could of been an issue in the loss to the colts it's still no excuse because every team has injuries. Overall their season was still successful just not the best and with the Broncos window closing to be able to win a Super Bowl with Peyton Manning, Elway must feel a coaching change could be the answer.

I believe Fox is a pretty good coach and it could end up costing Denver but it's hard not to make the playoffs with that kind of talent on the roster no matter who the coach is.

Win-Loss record says he did well, but I guess he and Elway just couldn't get along in the end.

Hunch here, Elway wanted Manning/Gase and thought that may be enough fire power to win big, brought in Foxy to build a SB caliber defense, and Foxy couldn't.

Manning is on the way out, and it's best to just clean house and start all over.

The way it's been reported, it sounds more likely that Fox basically forced his way out.

The tinfoil hat theory is that Ernie Accorsi told him Chicago would hire him.
